Beauty company Avon is launching a movement to celebrate the achievements and stories of women around the world – #MyStoryMatters.
The movement known as My Story Matters, is a global story and image gallery connecting women around the world, celebrating their achievements and inspiring others to fulfil their potential.
In a new global research from Avon, it was revealed that 92% of women are feeling increased pressure during the pandemic due to being unable to see loved ones in person, financial stresses, job security and home schooling.
Alongside these pressures, half of women admit they have felt less connected, resulting in feelings of anxiety, isolation, lack of motivation and self-doubt.
The findings suggest that the key part of female resilience and in finding strength is from hearing every day, relatable stories from other women and sharing experiences with others.
With this in mind, Avon is calling for people to share 1 million stories on the platform. To date, more than 300,000 stories have been donated to the gallery. To celebrate every story shared on the platform, the Avon Foundation will donate $1 to charities that support women to help create a better world for women.
The My Story Matters Gallery celebrates stories of strength, grit and determination, from extraordinary triumphs to everyday wins. It also aims to bring people together in these difficult times and offers a safe place for both women and men to share their different stories and experiences, and connect with others around the world.
“Avon has always been committed to empowering lives. In a world where we are still a century away from gender equality and only a quarter (24%) of people heard, read about or seen in newspapers, television and radio news are women***, our mission is to help women overcome the barriers and challenges they face, becoming the most they can be and that is why we are creating the world’s biggest ever digital gallery of stories celebrating women.
This is a testament to the brand’s desire to empower and elevate their expression, and we’re finding new and judgement free ways to make their voices heard. We hope that #MyStoryMatters can demonstrate that every story has value and deserves a chance to be heard and shared, and should never be underestimated.” – Tan Mei Yen, General Manager of Avon Cosmetics (Malaysia) Sdn Bhd
“In a world where our voices aren’t equal, in our everyday life we gather strength from people like us; those that have shared experiences. It helps give us strength when we hear of another woman struggling with the same things we are.
Avon’s My Story Matters Gallery will give women a place to speak up, share their stories and celebrate their achievements. The more stories we can gather and the more positive role models we can commend, the more impact we will have.” – Angela Cretu, Avon Chief Executive Officer.
My Story Matters rolled out globally across all of Avon’s consumer touchpoints from March 2021 as part of the Watch Me Now global campaign.
You can view the My Story Matters brand film here and do your part by donating your stories to the global digital gallery HERE. The gallery already features a host of stories and experiences, ranging from juggling motherhood and a career, to survivors of adversity including breast cancer and domestic violence.
