Red Readerhood Providing English Books to Underprivileged
Red Readerhood continues to give the best to the least by providing brand-new English books to the underprivileged.

If you are a regular at the Big Bad Wolf Book Sale, you would know what Red Readerhood is all about! It’s the beautifully curated section, circled with cheerful volunteers in Red Riding Hood capes situated right after the cashiers.

However, if you have never heard or spotted it before, here is a quick introduction:

  • Red Readerhood (RRH) is Big Bad Wolf Books’ Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) arm and it’s a firm believer that everyone, regardless of status has the right to acquire knowledge through reading.
  • Last year, the Big Bad Wolf Book Sale Kuala Lumpur successfully donated over 16,000 books to underprivileged homes and orphanages in Klang Valley.
  • To date in year 2019, the Big Bad Wolf Book Sale nationwide collaborated with various beneficiaries, collected and donated over 35,000 books. A huge shout out to generous bookworms of Pahang, Johor, Sabah, Sarawak, Negeri Sembilan, Penang, Terengganu, Perak, Kedah and Melaka!
  • The efforts do not only end here in Malaysia but the Red Readerhood has helped many underprivileged communities globally in countries such as the Philippines, Indonesia, Taiwan, Myanmar, South Korea, Pakistan and many more.

Red Readerhood Collaborated with a Global Non-Profit Organisation

This year for the Big Bad Wolf Book Sale Kuala Lumpur, Red Readerhood has collaborated with a global non-profit organisation, Friends to Mankind (FtMK) Malaysia for The Book Effect project.

The Book Effect project is a year-long project with the aim of collecting 10,000 books to build libraries for various orphanages and refugee schools across Klang Valley.

Not just that, they are also planning to cultivate the act of reading amongst the community through activities such as book clubs, community reading nooks, dedicated reading hours by college student for kids at local libraries and various activities to spread the joys of reading.

To get the ball rolling, the Big Bad Wolf Books Sale Kuala Lumpur 2019 has pledged 1,000 books and has successfully collected over 11,000 books in the past 10 days. Visitors are encouraged to purchase books at the Sale and donate them for this worthy cause at the Red Readerhood corner throughout the 11-day, 24 hours Sale.

Do keep a lookout for the corner right after the cashiers at the Book Sale!

In addition, the Big Bad Wolf Book Sale Kuala Lumpur 2019 also hosted 120 children of recovering drug users under the supervision of Drug Prevention Association Malaysia (PEMADAM) at the Sale.

This activity is conducted under Projek Amal, an initiative by PEMADAM. Children from age 7 years old to 16 years old had the chance to a session of meet and greet with Big Bad Wolf Books Co-Founder, Andrew Yap and Setiausaha Kehormat PEMADAM Negeri Selangor, Daing Muhammad Reduan.

The children were entertained with a storytelling session before they eagerly browsed through the Book Sale and purchased books of their choice while being accompanied by the volunteers.

The objective of Projek Amal is to foster reading habits amongst children during the year end school holidays which will hopefully turn into a long-term habit.

Don’t miss your chance to do your part for the Red Readerhood as you pile your cart during your next visit to the Big Bad Wolf Book Sale.
