Kicking off in front of a sold-out crowd in Kuala Lumpur, Selangor Red Giants (SRG) didn’t just win — they dominated. And leading the charge was none other than John “Innocent” Vincent Banal, SRG’s Gold Laner, who pulled off one of the rarest and most impressive feats in Mobile Legends history: a Savage — taking down five enemies in quick succession, all by himself, in Game 1.
This marks the first-ever Savage in an opening match of MPL Malaysia history. Talk about making a statement.

With all of his teammates down and the match hanging by a thread, Innocent stepped up in spectacular fashion. He didn’t just defend — he turned the game around with a solo Savage and then marched straight into VMS’ base to destroy the crystal, sealing the win for SRG.
That moment wasn’t just a highlight — it was historic. The crowd went wild. Social media lit up. And with momentum fully on their side, SRG cruised through Game 2 in just 11 minutes, finishing off VMS with clinical precision.

Selangor Red Giants : Recognition from the Nation
Selangor Red Giants (SRG)’s domination didn’t just stop on the stage. After their match, they were honoured by the Malaysia Book of Records for being the first Malaysian team to win the Esports World Cup x MLBB Mid Season Cup (MSC) 2024, held last year in Riyadh, Saudi Arabia.
The award was presented by Deputy Youth and Sports Minister YB Adam Adli, who praised the team’s historic achievements and highlighted the importance of their partnership with global esports powerhouse OG Esports.
“This isn’t just a partnership — it’s part of a bigger blueprint to showcase and develop Malaysian talent,” said YB Adam. “SRG’s success puts Malaysia on the global esports map.”
Week 1 Recap: New Faces, Same Fire
SRG wasn’t the only team making noise in Week 1. Homebois (HB) opened their season with a strong 2-0 victory over AERO Esports (AERO).
With revamped rosters on both sides, it was HB’s new Indonesian signing, Kenley “Vell” Nathaniel Zefanya, who stood out. His commanding performance earned him MVP honors, finishing with a solid 5/2/10 KDA and proving he’s one to watch this season.
Meanwhile, Monster Vicious (MV) stunned three-time MPL champions Todak (TDK) with a dominant 2-0 sweep. TDK entered the week flying high after qualifying for the 2025 World Esports Championship (WEC), but MV crushed their momentum with clean, calculated gameplay.
MV has developed a reputation as giant slayers — they defeated SRG, VMS, and TDK during last season’s regular season, and they’re off to a blazing start once again.

At the end of Week 1, SRG, HB, and MV are locked at the top of the standings with three points each, having secured 2-0 wins in their respective matches.
In MPL Malaysia’s Regular Season format, a 2-0 win earns three points, a 2-1 win gives two, a 1-2 loss provides one, and a 0-2 loss yields zero. This tiebreaker system will be crucial as the season progresses.
