What to Expect from the HBO Original Harry Potter Series

This rebooted series will span multiple seasons, each designed to stay true to the events of the books while offering deeper character development and new storytelling opportunities.

According to HBO, this adaptation will bring “Harry Potter to new and existing audiences,” and will stream exclusively on HBO Max, including upcoming launches in Germany, Italy, and the UK.

The original Harry Potter films will remain available worldwide, but this series aims to dig deeper into J.K. Rowling’s literary world, with more room to explore side plots, character arcs, and themes often condensed in the films.

The Creative Team Behind the Magic

The Harry Potter Series is being written and executive produced by Francesca Gardiner, best known for her work on His Dark Materials and Succession. Acclaimed director Mark Mylod will executive produce and helm several episodes.

The production is a joint effort between HBO, Warner Bros. Television, and Brontë Film and TV.

In addition to J.K. Rowling herself, executive producers include Neil Blair, Ruth Kenley-Letts, and David Heyman – the latter of whom was also behind the original Harry Potter film series through Heyday Films.
