Borderlands 4 Now Available for Pre-Order – Launches September 12 with New Vault Hunters & Post-Launch DLC

The chaotic, loot-filled universe of Borderlands is back—and bolder than ever. 2K and Gearbox Software have officially announced that Borderlands® 4 is now available for pre-order ahead of its worldwide launch on September 12, 2025.

Fans can expect the franchise’s biggest evolution yet, with four brand-new Vault Hunters, massive worlds, new traversal mechanics, and a robust post-launch content plan.

Available across PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X|S, and PC via Steam and Epic Games Store, Borderlands 4 will also be making its way to the Nintendo Switch 2 later in 2025, allowing even more players to experience the madness.

Bigger World, Bolder Storytelling

Set on the sprawling new planet Kairos, players will go head-to-head with the mysterious Timekeeper and his formidable Order. The game features a mix of explosive combat, quirky storytelling, and cel-shaded visuals that Borderlands is known for—but with an evolved twist.

According to Randy Pitchford, Gearbox founder and president, “Borderlands 4 is the best entry point for new players while also being a heartfelt love letter to fans of the original games.” The game aims to be accessible while preserving its roots as a genre-defining looter-shooter.

Meet the New Vault Hunters

Borderlands 4 introduces four new Vault Hunters, each with unique abilities and playstyles. While full details are yet to be revealed, expect deep skill trees and special abilities that allow for a highly customizable combat experience—fueled by the franchise’s iconic billions of weapon combinations.

The addition of new traversal mechanics also means exploring Kairos will be more fluid and exciting than ever before, adding verticality and speed to the already chaotic gameplay loop.

Post-Launch Content Roadmap

2K and Gearbox have already teased a rich roadmap of free and paid post-launch content. Players can expect:

  • All-new Vault Hunters
  • Side missions and challenges
  • New enemies and regions to explore

Depending on the edition you choose, you may also receive early access to exclusive story packs, additional gear, and cosmetic upgrades. More detailed announcements will follow closer to the release date.
