Maqna Esports Club (MEC) delivered a surprise upset at the Free Fire World Series (FFWS) Malaysia 2025 Fall Grand Final, capturing the national title in their very first tournament appearance and securing a prestigious spot in the FFWS Southeast Asia 2025 Fall.
Held on 2 August 2025 at the ESI Hub @ Spacerubix, Puchong, the grand final brought together the 12 best Free Fire teams in Malaysia, attracting nearly 500 passionate fans.
Hosted in partnership with the Malaysia Esports Federation, the high-stakes event marked one of the most intense and competitive seasons in the league’s history.
Now, alongside powerhouse teams Todak and Expand, MEC will represent Malaysia on the regional stage this coming 15 August as they begin their journey in the FFWS Southeast Asia Knockout Stage.
Maqna Esports Club – From Newcomers to Champions
Although this marks MEC’s debut as a team, their roster is far from inexperienced. Led by a trio of battle-tested veterans, the squad includes:
- Noor Irfan Haqeemy (MEC.RAINE) – Captain and former MCP Majors Season 1 Champion (2021) with GeekFam
- Alif Mok’ta (MEC.ALIFF) – In-game leader, MCP Majors Season 3 Champion with Farang (2022), FFWS 2022 Sentosa player
- Marc Raymiel L. Romero (MEC.RAYMIEL) – Sniper and MCPS Majors Season 4 Champion with AV Radicals (2022), FFWS 2022 Bangkok participant
They are joined by rising stars Aryand Bin Iskandar (MEC.YANNZ) as bomber and Danny So (MEC.GETBU) in the support role.
Despite nerves among some players participating in their first offline event, team captain MEC.RAINE ensured morale stayed high. “I reminded my players we had nothing to lose,” he said. “We saved our Champion Rush until the very last moment—and that decision won us the championship.”
Strategy and Grit Make the Difference
One key to MEC’s success was their clever weapon allocation, particularly assigning the powerful M590 shotgun to their three front-liners—giving them the edge in close combat.
Their patience and composure also helped. “We stayed calm, waited for the right moment, and made our push when it mattered most,” RAINE added. The team fed off the energy of the crowd—fans, friends, family, and even rival supporters—to stay laser-focused throughout the match.
The FFWS Malaysia 2025 Fall Grand Final used the Champion Rush format. To win, teams had to either:
- Be the first to reach 70 points and then win a Booyah!
- Or finish with the highest score after 8 rounds
However, the contest only lasted 7 high-octane rounds, with multiple top-tier teams battling for that final Booyah! opportunity.
Round Highlights:
- Round 1 (Purgatory): Team Vamos secured the win.
- Round 2 (Nexterra): Elite took the victory.
- Round 3 (Alpine): Southern Tiger Esports hit 70 points first, entering Champion Rush territory.
- Round 4 (Bermuda): Team Vamos won again and also entered Champion Rush contention.
- Round 5 (Kalamari): HEREWEGO capitalized as rivals faltered, becoming the third Champion Rush contender.
- Round 6 (Solara): Despite early elimination, MEC managed to hit 73 points—enough to qualify for Champion Rush.
- Round 7 (Bermuda): MEC rose to the challenge, executing flawless strategy and teamwork to outlast all others and take the Booyah! and the title.
A Booyah! to Remember
MEC.ALIFF was named MVP of the final round for his exceptional leadership and precision. MEC demonstrated their strongest performance yet on the Bermuda map—displaying composure, tactical positioning, and mechanical skill to perfection.
With rivals Team Vamos and Southern Tigers taken out early in Round 7, MEC knew this was their moment. They pushed aggressively, stayed united, and secured their first ever Booyah!—along with the national title.
Eyes on Southeast Asia
As newly crowned Malaysian champions, MEC will join Todak and Expand to represent Malaysia at the FFWS Southeast Asia 2025 Fall, kicking off on 15 August, and concluding with the Grand Final in Bangkok on 5 October.
Captain MEC.RAINE expressed his team’s gratitude and ambition:
“This is a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity for us. We’ve waited years for this moment, and we’ll do our best to raise Malaysia’s name and represent the Malaysian Free Fire community with pride.”
A New Era for Malaysian Esports?
The victory of Maqna Esports Club highlights not just their individual skill but the evolving depth of the Malaysian Free Fire scene. With FFWS Malaysia offering a direct path to international competition, the league is rapidly becoming a launchpad for global talent.
