In a heartfelt show of unity and community care, the Rotary Club of Ara Damansara has made a significant contribution to public health by donating an automated external defibrillator (AED) to Al-Makmuriah Mosque in Kampung Sungai Kayu Ara.
This effort is not only about providing life-saving equipment but also about educating the public through free CPR and AED training sessions.
The official handover ceremony was held on 5 August 2025, led by Club President Siraanjivi Ganasan, and graced by Selangor Executive Councillor for Public Health and Environment, Jamaliah Jamaluddin, who also serves as the State Assembly Member for Bandar Utama.
Why Al-Makmuriah Mosque?
Jamaliah described Al-Makmuriah Mosque as a strategic location for the AED due to its role as a central gathering place for residents of Bandar Utama, including families, workers, and students. She stressed the importance of accessibility to such a device in public areas.
“The availability of an AED here will not only benefit mosque congregants but also the wider surrounding community in the event of an emergency,” said Jamaliah.
She further emphasized that heart attacks remain the leading cause of death in Malaysia, and timely intervention using AEDs could be the key to saving lives.
A Broader Plan for Public Safety
The AED installation is part of a larger plan by the Selangor State Government to equip more public spaces—including parks, sports centres, and places of worship—with AEDs.
Jamaliah also announced that the government will roll out CPR and AED training for volunteers through the Sukarelawan Kesihatan Komuniti Selangor (SUKA) program.
She expressed appreciation for the Rotary Club’s effort and acknowledged VitalFour Medical for conducting the live CPR and AED demonstration during the event.
‘A Lifesaver in Every Home’ Vision Realised
The initiative is the latest achievement under the Rotary Club’s “A Lifesaver in Every Home (ALEH)” programme, which was started by former president Ling Hau Ching. According to Siraanjivi, the programme has:
- Donated four AED units
- Trained over 200 individuals in CPR
- Received co-sponsorship from the Million Dollar Round Table (MDRT) Foundation for two AEDs
“It is indeed meaningful for a house of worship to provide such a life-saving device for emergency use,” said Siraanjivi, praising the mosque for its openness and cooperation.
He also linked this act of service to the upcoming Rotary International 2025-2026 theme “Unite for Good”, noting that this initiative embodies Rotary’s commitment to serving humanity beyond cultural or religious lines.
This initiative didn’t go unnoticed—the Federal Government has recognised this AED donation as part of the official programme for the Hari Kebangsaan Hari Malaysia (HKHM) 2025, held under the theme “Malaysia MADANI: Rakyat Disantuni”.
A Message of Unity from the Mosque
Chairman of Al-Makmuriah Mosque, Ustaz Mhd Nadzri bin Hj Mhd Tajudin, echoed the sentiment of unity and public service:
“This device represents our collective care and readiness as a community. This is rakyat disantuni in action, ensuring that help is within everyone’s reach when it matters most.”
He expressed hope that this effort would inspire more houses of worship and public venues to prioritise access to life-saving tools for all Malaysians.
Join the Free Training Session
To further build community readiness, the Rotary Club will host a free CPR + AED hands-on training session on Saturday, 9 August, conducted by certified VitalFour volunteers. The session is open to all members of the public, regardless of age or background.
This AED donation is more than just a piece of equipment—it symbolises a growing culture of emergency preparedness, compassion, and unity among Malaysians. In times when every second counts, having the tools and training to act swiftly could make the ultimate difference.
With continuous collaboration between NGOs, religious institutions, healthcare providers, and the government, Malaysia is taking bold steps toward a healthier, safer, and more united future.
