Quaker, the world’s No. 1 oats brand, has launched the Jom Quaker Fit campaign to inspire Malaysians to make smarter eating choices that lead to better weight management, heart health, and improved digestion—without the need for restrictive diets.
Anchored in the message “Eat Better, Not Less”, this nationwide initiative empowers Malaysians with practical tips, nutrition insights, and delicious oat-based recipes that fit seamlessly into daily life.
By starting with small, achievable changes, Quaker hopes to tackle the country’s growing public health concerns while helping more people enjoy the benefits of fibre-rich, slow-release energy from oats.
Why Smarter Eating Habits Are Urgently Needed in Malaysia
The campaign comes at a crucial time. According to recent data, 54.4% of Malaysians are overweight or obese, with over 2 million also living with three major non-communicable diseases (NCDs) such as obesity, hypertension, and high cholesterol.
These conditions significantly increase the risk of heart disease and stroke.
Poor dietary patterns—such as low fibre intake, excessive refined carbohydrates, and high sodium consumption—are major contributors. Research shows that many of these health risks can be reduced through improved nutrition and consistent lifestyle changes.
Oats: The Small Grain with Big Science
Oats are more than just a breakfast staple—they’re a superfood supported by over 80 global clinical studies. Rich in beta-glucan, a natural soluble fibre, oats help increase satiety, regulate blood sugar, and support healthy digestion.
Beta-glucan works by slowing the absorption of carbohydrates, providing sustained energy while reducing the urge to overeat. Studies also show that regular oat consumption can help with weight management and support heart health.
“Eating healthy isn’t just about weight—it’s about building habits that support movement, mental wellbeing, and energy levels,” says consultant dietitian Mr Georgen Thye. “Oats are a smart place to start.”
The Jom Quaker Fit 30-Day Challenge
Building on last year’s success, Quaker is once again inviting Malaysians to join its 30-Day Challenge. The concept is simple: start your day with oats for a month and see the difference in energy, satiety, and overall wellbeing.
Participants can visit one of 70 retail outlets nationwide for a FREE body composition check, receive recipe inspiration, and get practical advice from nutrition experts.
Later this year, the campaign will expand into universities through partnerships with health institutions to encourage younger Malaysians to adopt healthier habits.
Expert Advice Meets Real-Life Cooking
The campaign launch at Sunway Velocity Mall featured an expert-led talk and live cooking demo. Dr Kit Phanvijhitsiri, PepsiCo’s R&D Nutrition Principal Scientist, joined Mr Georgen Thye to discuss the role of fibre in the Malaysian diet and show how oats can easily replace refined grains in local meals.
“Healthy eating doesn’t have to be complicated,” says Dr Kit. “Whether in sweet or savoury dishes, oats provide a practical way to boost fibre intake while supporting long-term health goals.”
During the cooking demo, Mr Georgen prepared creative oat-based dishes—from savoury porridge to snack bites—proving that healthy food can be satisfying, local, and full of flavour.
Eat Better, Not Less: A Mindset Shift
The Jom Quaker Fit campaign promotes a refreshing approach to healthy eating: it’s not about cutting out foods you love, but about making smarter swaps that nourish your body. By starting the day with oats, you not only fuel your morning but also set a healthier tone for the rest of the day.
“At Quaker, we believe in meeting Malaysians where they are—offering solutions that are simple, science-backed, and sustainable,” says Aditya Ahuja, PepsiCo Cluster General Manager for Malaysia & Philippines. “We want to help people make better choices without feeling deprived.”
