How Sustainable September 2025 is Transforming Kuala Lumpur’s City Living

The KLCC Precinct has once again taken centre stage in driving sustainability with the launch of Sustainable September 2025, now in its third year.

Officially launched on 11 September 2025 at KLCC Park, the event was officiated by YBhg Datuk Seri TPr. (Dr.) Maimunah Mohd Sharif, Mayor of Kuala Lumpur, alongside Datuk Sr Mohd Salem Kailany, Group Chief Executive Officer of KLCC Holdings, and key partners including the Kuala Lumpur Convention Centre Business Events Alliance (KLCCBEA) and Urbanice Malaysia.

This year’s theme, “Liveable and Lovable Precinct”, reflects the KLCC Precinct’s ongoing commitment to shaping a vibrant urban environment that aligns with Dewan Bandaraya Kuala Lumpur’s (DBKL) vision of a Liveable and Lovable City.

More than just an annual campaign, Sustainable September has grown into a transformative movement that blends environmental stewardship with community well-being.

Reimagining Urban Living

At the launch, Datuk Sr Mohd Salem Kailany highlighted how Sustainable September is closely tied to the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs).

It is about reimagining how people live, work and connect in the heart of the city. By embedding sustainability into everything we do, we are creating a greener, more liveable precinct, while building a legacy of resilience and wellbeing for generations to come,” he said.

The initiative reflects the KLCC Precinct’s vision to become a model where leisure, business, and sustainability coexist harmoniously—making it a benchmark for other cities in the region.

Community-Focused Activities

The launch day was filled with activities that combined environmental awareness with healthy living. From a morning fun run and a tree planting ceremony to an energising Zumba session, the programme underscored the idea that sustainability extends beyond preserving the environment—it is also about nurturing the physical and mental wellbeing of the community.

This year’s campaign also introduces a precinct-wide fundraising drive, with hotels, retail outlets, and other KLCC partners offering special packages at friendly rates.

The initiative aims to raise RM30,000, which will be channelled to charitable causes that reflect the campaign’s sustainability and social good values.

Greening the Heart of the CitySustainable September 2025 Kempen Penanaman 100 Juta Pokok

One of the highlights of Sustainable September 2025 is the tree-planting programme in collaboration with the Forest Research Institute Malaysia (FRIM).

A total of 48 new trees will be planted at KLCC Park as part of the national “Kempen Penanaman 100 Juta Pokok” (100 Million Tree-Planting Campaign).

This effort not only strengthens the role of KLCC Park as a vital green lung for Kuala Lumpur, but also reinforces its role as a shared space where residents, workers, and visitors can gather and thrive together.

Regional Recognition

Since its inception in 2022, Sustainable September has grown from a local initiative into a pioneering sustainability framework recognised across the ASEAN region.

Earlier this year, KLCCBEA presented the initiative at the ASEAN Sustainable Urbanisation Forum (ASUF) Business Assembly, where it was acknowledged as a scalable model with the potential to inspire other cities across Southeast Asia.

According to John Burke, Chairman of KLCCBEA, the campaign demonstrates how sustainability can be both impactful and inspiring:

“Sustainability is not an add-on. It is at the heart of KLCCBEA’s vision for a world-class, future-ready precinct. Through our collaboration with DBKL and Urbanice Malaysia, and with continuous support from KLCC Holdings, we are proud to contribute to the city’s vision of a Liveable and Lovable Kuala Lumpur.”

Sustainable September – A Model for the Future

Now in its third year, Sustainable September continues to expand its scope and impact. What began as a precinct initiative has evolved into a city-wide platform that unites partners, businesses, and the community under one shared goal: creating a sustainable, resilient, and people-centric urban environment.

With its combination of environmental action, community well-being, and corporate collaboration, the KLCC Precinct is showing how sustainability can move beyond slogans to become a living reality in the heart of Kuala Lumpur.

As the campaign continues to grow, the KLCC Precinct is not only building a more liveable and lovable city today but is also setting the foundation for a future where sustainability and quality of life go hand in hand.
