A powerful display of unity, compassion, and resilience filled the air at Blue Cap Run 2025, as 2,500 participants came together to support the fight against prostate cancer.
The event, held at Gamuda Cove, was co-organised by Yayasan MR D.I.Y., the charitable arm of MR D.I.Y. Group, and Universiti Malaya (UM).
With the symbolic sea of blue caps representing awareness and hope, the annual run successfully raised over RM700,000, which will be channelled to the University Malaya Urological Cancer Trust Fund (UCTF).
The funds will support ongoing prostate cancer research, patient care, and awareness initiatives across Malaysia.
A Celebration of Life and Courage
The event was officiated by YB Hannah Yeoh, Minister of Youth and Sports, who applauded the organisers for their efforts in championing cancer awareness while promoting community well-being and an active lifestyle.
“Events like this showcase the Malaysian spirit of solidarity — when people come together for a meaningful cause, it sparks awareness and drives real change,” said YB Hannah Yeoh during the opening ceremony.
Participants had the option to join either the 5KM Open Run or the 1KM Survivors’ Run, both created to celebrate cancer warriors and encourage inclusivity.
The sight of thousands of runners donning blue caps made a heartfelt statement — a visual tribute to those affected by prostate cancer and a reminder of the ongoing battle to find a cure.
Empowering Communities Through Partnership
This year’s Blue Cap Run marked Yayasan MR D.I.Y.’s first-ever involvement in the event, reflecting the foundation’s expanding commitment to public health and social causes.
Zaleha Mohd Mydin, Chief Executive Officer of Yayasan MR D.I.Y., expressed her gratitude and pride at the remarkable turnout:
“We are truly elated at the overwhelming response to Yayasan MR D.I.Y.’s maiden involvement in the Blue Cap Run. Today’s event is a celebration of life, courage, and compassion, especially for cancer survivors. Our partnership with University Malaya reflects our ongoing commitment to health-related causes that touch the lives of Malaysians.”
Her words echoed the event’s theme of hope and togetherness — a message that resonated deeply with the runners, volunteers, and supporters who made the event possible.
Blue Cap Run 2025 Turning Every Step into Impact
Beyond just a fitness activity, Blue Cap Run 2025 became a movement for good. The funds raised will directly contribute to the University Malaya Urological Cancer Trust Fund (UCTF), helping to advance research into prostate cancer treatments, provide patient care, and expand public awareness campaigns.
The initiative underscores how collective community action — supported by corporate partners, academia, and government bodies — can create meaningful change.
The event also featured a prize-giving ceremony, where winners received cash vouchers and trophies, while lucky draw prizes brought extra cheer to the crowd.
Yet, as many participants expressed, the real victory lay in knowing their efforts were contributing to something far greater — supporting the fight against a disease that affects thousands of men each year.
A Shared Mission: Beating Prostate Cancer
The success of Blue Cap Run 2025 highlighted the power of collaboration between the private sector, academia, and local communities. Together, they demonstrated that awareness, empathy, and determination are key in driving change.
Events like these not only raise crucial funds but also break the silence surrounding men’s health issues, encouraging early detection and open conversations about prostate cancer.
Prostate cancer remains one of the most common cancers among men in Malaysia, and efforts like the Blue Cap Run are crucial in ensuring that patients receive the care and support they deserve.
The Spirit of Hope Continues
As the morning drew to a close, the runners, survivors, and organisers stood united in one shared belief — that every step taken was a step closer to beating prostate cancer.
The symbolic sea of blue caps at Gamuda Cove was more than just a visual statement; it was a promise of solidarity, compassion, and continued action.
Through the combined efforts of Yayasan MR D.I.Y., Universiti Malaya, and the wider Malaysian community, Blue Cap Run 2025 became a shining example of what can be achieved when people run not just for fitness, but for a cause that truly matters.
In the end, it wasn’t just about crossing the finish line — it was about moving forward together, with hope leading the way.
