Astro Originals continues to elevate Malaysia’s premium television landscape with the launch of Bad Cop, a gripping crime action series adapted from the critically acclaimed 2017 German drama of the same name.
Following successful adaptations in Germany and India, the Malaysian version marks another milestone for Astro Originals, blending international storytelling excellence with strong local nuance and social relevance.
Premiering on 19 December 2025, Bad Cop will be available on OnDemand and sooka every Friday at 12:00 a.m., with television broadcasts on Astro Citra (Channel 108) every Friday at 9:00 p.m., and Astro Ria (Channel 104) every Saturday at 10:30 p.m. The first two episodes will be released simultaneously, offering viewers an immediate dive into its tense, high-stakes narrative.
A Dual Performance at the Heart of the Series
At the centre of Bad Cop is Aiman Hakim, who takes on one of the most challenging roles of his career by portraying two distinct characters—twin brothers Emir Khalid and Imar.
Emir is a small-time criminal navigating the margins of society, while Imar is a disciplined police inspector committed to justice. Their worlds collide dramatically when Imar is critically shot and entrusts Emir with his identity, forcing him to step into a life governed by law, morality, and responsibility.
This dual performance allows Aiman Hakim to showcase remarkable versatility, shifting seamlessly between vulnerability, aggression, conflict, and emotional restraint. The tension between the two identities forms the emotional backbone of the series, raising powerful questions about nature versus nurture, morality, and redemption.
A Strong Ensemble Cast and Premium Production
Bad Cop features a stellar ensemble cast including Siti Saleha, Harvinth Skin, Razib Salimin, Tony Eusoff, Whulandary Herman, Melissa Campbell, and Alvin Wong. Each episode also includes special appearances by popular local stars, adding freshness and excitement to the case-of-the-week format.
Produced by Astro Shaw, the series is led by showrunner Kavivarmen Vigneswaran and directed by Jason Chong, whose previous work on Liar set a benchmark for premium local thrillers. Together, they deliver a visually striking and emotionally grounded series that reflects Astro Originals’ signature cinematic quality.
Crime Stories with Social Depth
Spanning eight episodes, Bad Cop adopts a case-of-the-week structure, with each episode presenting a new investigation while contributing to the overarching narrative. Beyond crime-solving, the series explores pressing social issues such as identity fraud, marginalisation of rural communities, pressures faced by modern men, and domestic abuse.
This approach allows Bad Cop to move beyond conventional crime drama tropes, offering layered storytelling that resonates with Malaysian audiences. The police narrative, deeply familiar in the local context, is enriched with culturally relevant themes, making the adaptation both authentic and impactful.
A Strategic Brand Collaboration with Purpose
Bad Cop is also part of a strategic narrative-led collaboration with Goodday Charge, Malaysia’s first enriched milk with 10 essential nutrients. Rather than traditional sponsorship, the partnership integrates brand values into storytelling, positioning Goodday Charge as the energy behind stories of inner strength.
According to Amy Gan, Vice President of Marketing, the collaboration reflects Goodday Charge’s brand message, “memang ada yang hebat, sehingga munculnya yang terhebat.” Each Astro Originals title under this partnership highlights different expressions of inner strength—from resilience and courage to discipline and integrity.
In 2025, Goodday Charge supported five premium Astro Originals titles:
- One Cent Thief (Season 2) – Resilience in cybercrime battles
- First Wives – Strength through unbreakable friendships
- Honey Trap – Courage under pressure in espionage
- Generasi: Perfect 10 – Discipline and relentless pursuit of excellence
- Bad Cop – Integrity and moral conviction
Together, these stories reinforce the belief that greatness already exists within everyone, with the potential to become TERHEBAT.
A New Benchmark for Local Crime Drama
With its international pedigree, powerful performances, socially relevant storytelling, and premium production values, Bad Cop represents the next evolution of Astro Originals. It not only honours the legacy of its German and Indian counterparts but also stands confidently as a distinctly Malaysian series.
Audiences can look forward to a special crossover moment on 24 January 2026, where these five premium worlds unite, offering RM20,000 worth of prizes, with more details to be announced soon.
Bad Cop premieres on 19 December 2025, streaming on OnDemand and sooka, and airing weekly on Astro Citra and Astro Ria. For endless entertainment, viewers can subscribe to Astro One from RM49.99/month, or enhance their experience with Astro Fibre 500Mbps plus Entertainment Pack at RM139.99/month.
