The SCORE Marathon 2026 by AIA Vitality is gearing up to deliver its biggest edition yet, with an expected turnout of 50,000 participants in Putrajaya this July.
Following overwhelming demand, organisers have released an additional 300 race slots, further cementing its status as one of Malaysia’s most anticipated sporting events.
The announcement was made during a press conference held in Petaling Jaya, where key partners and stakeholders gathered to unveil plans for the upcoming race. With a submission already made to the Malaysia Book of Records, the 2026 edition is poised to officially become the country’s largest running event.
AIA Vitality Continues to Lead the Movement
At the heart of the marathon’s success is AIA Vitality, which marks its fifth consecutive year as Presenting Sponsor. The brand continues to champion healthier lifestyles by encouraging Malaysians to stay active and embrace long-term wellness.
Its ongoing partnership has played a crucial role in shaping the marathon’s identity—not just as a race, but as a platform that promotes the philosophy of living “Healthier, Longer, Better Lives.”
New Partnerships Elevate the Race Experience
This year’s edition introduces a major addition with adidas coming on board as the Official Sportswear Partner. The collaboration is expected to enhance the overall race experience, from performance gear to brand engagement.
The event is also supported by a strong ecosystem of partners, including EVA Air, Etika Sdn Bhd, and Le Minerale. Together, these brands contribute to key areas such as nutrition, hydration, recovery, and performance—ensuring runners are fully supported throughout their journey.
A Two-Day Race Format for the First Time
For the first time ever, the marathon will be held over two days at Dataran Putrajaya. The 5km and 10km races will take place on Saturday, July 18, followed by the 21km and full marathon (42km) categories on Sunday, July 19.
This expanded format allows for better race organisation while accommodating the growing number of participants. It also provides a more inclusive experience, catering to both beginners and seasoned runners.
Rising Participation Across All Levels
The 2026 edition reflects a broader shift in Malaysia’s running culture. Participation continues to rise, not only among experienced athletes but also first-time runners seeking personal milestones.
Among those taking on a new challenge this year is Chang Lih Kang, Malaysia’s Minister of Science, Technology and Innovation. After completing a 10km race last year, he will now attempt his first half marathon, highlighting how the event inspires individuals to push their limits.
Star Athletes Headline the Competition
The competitive field will feature top regional runners, including Soh Rui Yong, a two-time SEA Games marathon gold medallist. He will be joined by Malaysia’s Muhaizar Mohamed and national half marathon record holder Prabudass Krishnan.
Their presence adds excitement and prestige to the event, attracting attention from both local and international running communities.
Technology and Innovation Transforming the Experience
Beyond its scale, SCORE Marathon 2026 is embracing technology to improve the overall runner experience. From seamless race pack collection via the HeyJom system to AI-powered face recognition for instant photo retrieval, innovation is playing a key role in shaping the event.
These advancements not only enhance convenience but also provide valuable data insights that can contribute to building healthier and more active communities.
New Categories and Challenges Introduced
This year’s marathon will also introduce exciting new elements, including the SCORE Double Challenge, where participants can compete in two races across both days.
Additionally, a High Performance Category will cater to elite runners aiming for podium finishes.
These additions reflect the organisers’ commitment to evolving the event and meeting the diverse needs of participants.
From Humble Beginnings to Regional Recognition
Since its inception in 2014 with just over 3,600 participants, SCORE Marathon has grown significantly, welcoming more than 159,000 runners over the past decade.
Today, it stands as one of Malaysia’s premier running events with international recognition.
