LEGOLAND Malaysia Resort Unveils Merdeka Fest 2026

LEGOLAND Merdeka Fest 2026: 25 Days of Family Fun, Culture and LEGO Activities

Malaysia’s Merdeka celebrations are getting a colourful LEGO twist this year as LEGOLAND Malaysia Resort introduces its first-ever Merdeka Fest, bringing together Malaysian culture, creativity, family entertainment and the much-loved world of LEGO.

Taking place from 27 August until 20 September 2026, the 25-day celebration at LEGOLAND Malaysia Resort in Iskandar Puteri, Johor, promises plenty of activities for families looking to celebrate Malaysia’s National Day season in a fun and interactive way.

From traditional performances and cultural workshops to LEGO building challenges and Merdeka-themed competitions, there is something for visitors of all ages to enjoy.

Celebrating Malaysia’s Rich Cultural Heritage

One of the highlights of Merdeka Fest is its focus on Malaysia’s diverse cultural heritage.

Throughout the festival, The Beginning Stage at LEGOLAND Malaysia Resort will become a lively centre for cultural performances and interactive activities.

The celebration kicks off with the Merdeka Opening Spectacular, running from 27 August to 6 September. Visitors can expect an energetic show filled with patriotic spirit, music and entertainment suitable for the whole family.

From 7 to 13 September, the spotlight will turn towards Cultural Week, featuring traditional performances such as Tarian Tradisi Malaysia, Tarian Rakyat Serumpun and Tarian Borneo.

There will also be opportunities for visitors to get involved through a series of interactive cultural workshops. These include Bengkel Tarian Joget 1 Malaysia, Bengkel Zapin Warisan, Bengkel Kuda Kepang, Let’s Learn Magunatip and Mari Mencanting Batik.

For families who want to experience Malaysian traditions beyond simply watching a performance, these workshops could be an interesting way to learn about the country’s cultural heritage through hands-on activities.

The festival will conclude with the Unity Grand Finale Farewell Show from 14 to 20 September, celebrating the traditions and cultures that bring Malaysians together. Special cultural performances will also take place every Saturday throughout the festival.

Build Your Own Merdeka Memories with LEGO

Naturally, no LEGOLAND celebration would be complete without plenty of LEGO activities.

During Merdeka Fest, families can participate in a range of creative activities at The Beginning Stage.

One of the key attractions is the LEGO Mural Jalur Gemilang, where visitors can contribute LEGO bricks to a giant collaborative mural inspired by Malaysia’s national flag.

Children can also take part in the Malaysia Discovery Quest & Merdeka Colouring activity, combining exploration, learning and creativity as they discover more about Malaysia.

For families who enjoy building together, Build-A-Heart & Build-A-Tower provides an opportunity to create collaborative LEGO models while showing their love for the country.

There is even an environmental element through Sort for a Greener Malaysia, a hands-on activity designed to introduce children and families to recycling and better waste-sorting habits.

Visitors can also capture their Merdeka memories at the Photo Booth, take part in Minifigure Trading with LEGOLAND Model Citizens and enter the Merdeka Lucky Draw for a chance to win LEGO prizes.

Four Days of Merdeka Competitions

Things get even more exciting during the Merdeka long weekend, with competitions taking place from 28 to 31 August.

Those with a competitive streak can test their creativity and skills in four different challenges.

The Speed Building Challenge on 28 August will put participants’ LEGO-building abilities and speed to the test.

On 29 August, visitors can showcase their creativity and patriotic spirit at the Merdeka Costume Contest, where participants can dress in traditional Malaysian or patriotic outfits.

Art lovers can look forward to the Batik Painting Competition on 30 August, offering participants the opportunity to put their own creative spin on the traditional Malaysian art form.

Meanwhile, aspiring performers can take the stage during the Merdeka Singing Competition on 31 August and sing their favourite patriotic songs.

With a different competition every day, the Merdeka weekend could be a particularly exciting time for families planning a visit.

Triple Park Annual Pass Promotion

For families who want to return to LEGOLAND Malaysia Resort throughout the year, there is also a special Annual Pass promotion.

The Triple Park Annual Pass is available at a flat rate of RM266, offering unlimited fun across the resort’s parks.

Adding an extra collector’s appeal is an exclusive limited-edition MINILAND Sultan Ibrahim Stadium (JDT) Pass, created in partnership with JDT and Sultan Ibrahim Stadium.

For LEGO fans, football supporters and frequent visitors to LEGOLAND Malaysia Resort, the special pass could be an attractive addition to the Merdeka celebration.

A Different Way to Celebrate Merdeka

Merdeka Fest 2026 offers an interesting combination of entertainment, education and creativity. Instead of simply celebrating National Day through performances, LEGOLAND Malaysia Resort is using LEGO play and hands-on experiences to introduce Malaysian culture to younger visitors.

As Cs Lim, Vice President of LEGOLAND Malaysia Resort, explained, the festival is designed to give families an opportunity to come together, discover more about Malaysia and celebrate the country’s diversity.

With activities ranging from traditional dance and batik workshops to LEGO building and family competitions, LEGOLAND Merdeka Fest 2026 looks set to be an entertaining option for families during the Merdeka season.

The festival runs from 27 August to 20 September 2026 at LEGOLAND Malaysia Resort, Iskandar Puteri, Johor. Festival activities are included with regular admission unless otherwise stated.

So, if you are looking for Merdeka activities in Johor or a family-friendly weekend experience, this LEGO-themed celebration could be one worth adding to your calendar.
