Don’t Miss A Beat: Nestlé Omega Plus Puts Young Malaysians’ Heart Health in Focus

Heart health may not always be at the top of the list for young Malaysians, especially when they feel healthy and have no obvious symptoms. However, cardiovascular risks can begin developing much earlier in life, making awareness and regular health screening increasingly important.

In conjunction with World Heart Month 2026 and the World Heart Federation’s “Don’t Miss A Beat” theme, Nestlé® Omega Plus is stepping up its efforts to bring heart-health education, screening and preventive action closer to young Malaysians.

The initiative sees Nestlé® Omega Plus joining forces with its longstanding partners, Yayasan Jantung Malaysia (YJM) and Institut Jantung Negara Foundation (IJNF). This year, Perbadanan Tabung Pendidikan Tinggi Nasional (PTPTN) is also participating, providing an additional platform to reach young adults within the PTPTN community.

As part of the initiative, Nestlé® Omega Plus is targeting 10,000 health screenings, alongside heart-health education designed to encourage Malaysians to better understand their health numbers and potential cardiovascular risks.

Why Young Malaysians Should Pay Attention

Heart disease is commonly associated with older adults, but some of its risk factors can develop much earlier — and may remain undetected for years.

According to findings from the National Health and Morbidity Survey (NHMS) 2023, an estimated 95% of cases involving raised cholesterol, 80% of hypertension cases and 84% of diabetes cases remained undiagnosed.

The survey also found that two in five Malaysian adults had not undergone health screening during the previous year, with some people potentially putting it off simply because they did not experience any symptoms.

This highlights an important point: feeling healthy does not necessarily mean everything is fine.

Regular health screening can help individuals understand important health indicators and identify potential risks earlier, giving them an opportunity to make lifestyle changes before problems become more serious.

Screening Is Only the First Step

While health screening is an important starting point, maintaining good heart health requires consistent action in everyday life.

Dr Fa’iz Mashood, Clinical Fellow in Cardiology at Institut Jantung Negara, highlighted the importance of closing the awareness gap among Malaysians, particularly when conditions such as high cholesterol, hypertension and diabetes can go unnoticed.

Nutrition is another important part of the equation.

According to Ms. Foong Pui Hing, Senior Principal Dietitian at Institut Jantung Negara, healthy nutrition forms the foundation of long-term heart health. A balanced eating pattern can include more vegetables, fruits, whole grains and fish, as well as unsaturated oils, while limiting highly processed foods.

For young adults balancing studies, work, family and social commitments, building realistic and sustainable habits may be more practical than attempting major lifestyle changes overnight.

Staying active, eating a balanced diet, getting sufficient rest and keeping track of key health indicators can all contribute to better long-term wellbeing.

From Awareness to Preventive Action

The latest initiative builds on Nestlé® Omega Plus’ ongoing commitment to heart health in Malaysia.

Through its annual Nestlé® Omega Plus Walk A Million Miles campaign and collaborations with YJM and IJNF, the programme supported 98,593 health screenings in 2025. The initiative now aims to double its screening reach by 2027.

Nestlé® Omega Plus will also continue its annual contribution of RM100,000 each to YJM and IJNF, supporting their efforts to expand heart-health education, outreach and screening programmes.

These partnerships demonstrate how improving cardiovascular health requires more than individual responsibility. Making screening and health education more accessible can help communities take preventive action earlier.

A New Option for Adults on the Go

Alongside its broader heart-health efforts, Nestlé® Omega Plus is also expanding its portfolio with the introduction of Nestlé® Omega Gold UHT, aimed at working adults and people looking for a convenient option while on the move.

The product provides three nutritional benefits: 1.2g of plant sterol ActiCol® to help lower cholesterol, potassium to support normal blood pressure, and inulin to support good blood glucose control, when consumed as recommended as part of a balanced diet and healthy lifestyle.

The addition reflects the wider focus on making healthier choices easier to incorporate into busy daily routines.

Walk A Million Miles 2026 Continues the Movement

The heart-health message will also come to life through the Nestlé® Omega Plus Walk A Million Miles 2026 campaign.

The virtual challenge runs from 1 September to 31 October 2026, giving Malaysians an opportunity to stay active while participating in a nationwide movement focused on heart health.

Meanwhile, the physical walk is scheduled to take place on 19 September 2026 in Putrajaya.

The campaign’s media launch at MyTOWN Kuala Lumpur brings together several elements, including a “Don’t Miss A Beat” healthcare forum, health screenings, educational activities and a pledge platform encouraging Malaysians to make heart health a greater priority. PTPTN will also have a dedicated booth at the event to engage young Malaysians.

Don’t Wait Until There Are Symptoms

Perhaps the biggest takeaway from this initiative is that heart health should not be treated as something to worry about only later in life.

Young Malaysians have an opportunity to start building healthier habits today. Understanding cholesterol, blood pressure and blood glucose levels, staying physically active and making better food choices can form part of a long-term approach to cardiovascular health.

With Nestlé® Omega Plus, YJM, IJNF and PTPTN working together, the goal is clear: bring heart-health awareness and screening closer to the community and encourage Malaysians to take action before potential risks become bigger problems.

After all, when it comes to our health, don’t miss a beat.
