Heroes of the Storm Welcomes Xal’atath – Brings the Power of the Void to the Nexus

Blizzard Entertainment has released a major new update for Heroes of the Storm, with Patch 57 introducing a brand-new Hero to the Nexus. Xal’atath, Harbinger of the Void, is now available as the game’s 91st Hero and marks the first new Hero to join the roster in almost six years.

Her arrival is an important moment for both long-time players and those who may be returning to Heroes of the Storm after taking a break. Blizzard is encouraging players to jump back into the Nexus and experience Xal’atath alongside the latest gameplay updates.

Xal’atath is a Void-wielding Ranged Assassin designed around spatial control, positioning and prolonged battles. Her unique playstyle revolves around a summonable object known as the Dark Heart, which allows her to pressure enemies and control key areas of the battlefield.

A Ranged Assassin Built for Extended Fights

Xal’atath has a Medium difficulty rating and uses Mana as her primary resource, while her Trait generates a secondary resource called Soul Essence.

Her Trait, Void Volley, allows Xal’atath to build Soul Essence through Basic Attacks. Once the resource is fully charged, she can unleash a barrage of Void orbs at a target area while continuing to move.

Void Volley is also connected to the Void Whispers quest. As the quest progresses, Xal’atath can gain additional range, faster charging, piercing attacks and more powerful Void damage.

Her other abilities further support her focus on controlling space and keeping enemies under pressure.

Shadow Mark (Q) launches a large Void Orb that can mark enemy Heroes. Once an enemy is marked, the Dark Heart moves to the impact location and detonates against marked targets.

Dark Heart Ritual (W) summons the Dark Heart to release pulses of Void energy against nearby enemies before following and detonating on a Shadow Marked Hero.

For mobility, Void Step (E) allows Xal’atath to blink between three points arranged in a triangular pattern. Each stop increases her attack damage, while the ability can also be cancelled early to help her reposition or escape dangerous situations.

Two Powerful Heroics

Xal’atath comes with two Heroic abilities that offer different approaches to combat.

Void Eruption allows her to channel a growing Void Orb before launching it to blind enemies and control a large area. The orb can then detonate for significant area damage. When cast on the Dark Heart, the ability immediately triggers a fully empowered eruption.

Meanwhile, Void Convergence creates a portal that continuously produces Void minions. These minions can overwhelm nearby opponents, with replacements spawning when previous minions are defeated until the portal expires or is destroyed.

Together, these Heroics give players different ways to approach team fights and control important areas of the map.

Twitch Drops Celebrate the Launch

To celebrate Xal’atath’s arrival, Blizzard is also offering Twitch Drops for players watching Heroes of the Storm content.

Xal’atath Launch Price and Future Gold Availability

Xal’atath is currently available to unlock for US$7.99. Blizzard has also confirmed that the team intends to make her available for in-game Gold later this year, tentatively targeting the end of November.

According to Blizzard, the decision to initially offer Xal’atath through direct purchase is based on two goals: keeping the launch simple for players and allowing the team to better understand the game’s long-term sustainability.

With Patch 57 and the arrival of its first new Hero in nearly six years, Heroes of the Storm is giving both veteran players and newcomers a new reason to return to the Nexus. Xal’atath’s Void-based abilities, Dark Heart mechanics and focus on battlefield control could make her an interesting addition to the game’s evolving roster.
