Asia’s largest LEGO® school competition is back, and it’s bigger, bolder, and more exciting than ever. LEGOLAND Malaysia Resort has officially launched the LEGOLAND School Challenge 2026, inviting students across the region to showcase their creativity, innovation, and teamwork through the power of LEGO play.
Now in its fifth edition, the competition has evolved significantly since its debut in 2022. What started as a local initiative has grown into a regional platform that attracts hundreds of entries from schools across Asia.
With strong support from the Ministry of Education Malaysia, the challenge continues to promote STEAM learning—Science, Technology, Engineering, Arts, and Mathematics—through a hands-on, engaging approach.
A New Challenge: The Ultimate Theme Park Ride
For 2026, participants are tasked with an exciting new mission—designing the “Ultimate Theme Park Ride.”
Students will compete in teams of three to four across three categories:
- Junior (ages 7–9)
- Primary (ages 10–12)
- Secondary (ages 13–17)
Each team must create a LEGO model that represents a complete theme park attraction. From futuristic roller coasters to magical fantasy rides or underwater adventures, the possibilities are endless.
To stand out, teams are encouraged to:
- Include at least one ride vehicle or carriage
- Add moving elements, either manual or motorised
- Build immersive dioramas that enhance storytelling
In addition to the physical build, participants must also submit a short description (50–100 words in English) explaining the concept behind their creation. This ensures that storytelling and communication skills are developed alongside technical and creative abilities.
Learning Through Play
At its core, the LEGOLAND School Challenge 2026 is more than just a competition—it’s a platform designed to nurture future innovators.
By combining creativity with problem-solving, the challenge reflects the LEGO philosophy of “learning through play.” Students are encouraged to think critically, collaborate effectively, and transform their ideas into tangible creations.
According to organisers, the competition also promotes cross-cultural collaboration, as students from different countries and backgrounds come together under one shared goal—innovation through creativity.
A More Intense Grand Finale
This year’s edition introduces several exciting upgrades to the Grand Finale, raising the stakes for finalists.
Key Highlights:
- “Make or Break” Speed Build Round
The live speed build now contributes 30% of the total score, making it a crucial component in determining the winners. - Extended Build Time
Finalists will have one full hour to complete their builds, compared to 45 minutes previously. - Surprise Theme Challenge
The finale theme will only be revealed on the day, pushing teams to think on their feet and adapt quickly. - Parents & Teachers Challenge
A fun new addition, this 15-minute round invites parents and teachers to join in and showcase their creativity alongside students.
These new elements ensure that the competition tests not just preparation, but also adaptability, teamwork, and quick thinking.
Exciting Prizes Await Winners
The rewards for the 2026 challenge are just as impressive as the competition itself.
In partnership with Trip.com, winners will receive unforgettable travel experiences:
