This Merdeka season, Pocky is inviting Malaysians to share a taste of tradition with two brand-new flavours that pay tribute to the nation’s culinary heritage.
In celebration of Malaysia’s 68th Merdeka Day, Glico Malaysia has launched its Limited Edition Pocky Durian and Pocky Ondeh-Ondeh, alongside a vibrant street art mural that captures the essence of Malaysian unity and culture.
A Celebration of Local Flavours
Known for its iconic crunchy biscuit sticks, Pocky has always been about sharing happiness. With this new launch, the brand introduces a creative twist on two beloved Malaysian favourites.
Pocky Durian is crafted with real durian, giving snack lovers a bold and creamy chocolate coating infused with the King of Fruits. It’s a daring yet delightful snack that captures the richness of durian in every bite.
Pocky Ondeh-Ondeh takes inspiration from the nostalgic kuih, featuring a pandan chocolate coating sprinkled with real desiccated coconut for a subtle saltiness. Each biscuit stick is flavoured with palm sugar, evoking the sweet, chewy centre of the classic dessert.
Together, these flavours bring Malaysians a sensory experience that blends cultural pride with a playful snacking tradition.
Festive Packaging Inspired by Heritage
To make the launch even more special, the festive Pocky packs are designed with vibrant Peranakan-inspired motifs. The packaging not only highlights the use of real ingredients but also reflects Malaysia’s colourful cultural tapestry.
These limited-edition boxes are as much a treat to look at as they are to taste.
Beyond flavour, Pocky is also celebrating Merdeka through art. Glico Malaysia has commissioned a mural titled “Share the Taste of Heritage”, created by renowned local street artist Abdulrashade.
Located at Restoran Alam Berkat Mamak on Jalan Doraisamy, the mural is a bold celebration of Malaysian identity. It incorporates Peranakan motifs, national symbols, and modern elements like skateboarding and photography to capture the energy of Malaysian youth.
Set against the backdrop of Chow Kit and Heritage Row, the artwork symbolises the meeting point between tradition and modern urban life.
For Abdulrashade, the project is deeply personal. Growing up in Penang surrounded by Peranakan influences and coming from a family of durian growers, the mural resonates with his roots.
“This piece is about unity, youth, and heritage. I hope it inspires more people to see how street art can tell our national story in new ways,” he shared.
Sharing Happiness, Sharing Heritage
According to Lee Yeen Theng, Managing Director of Glico Malaysia & International Cluster, the initiative reflects Malaysians’ love for food and pride in traditional flavours.
“With Pocky Durian and Pocky Ondeh-Ondeh, we’re sharing the happiness of familiar flavours in a fresh way that combines culture, creativity, and flavour. This mural brings that spirit to life while celebrating Malaysia’s unity and diversity.”
The project demonstrates how food and art can come together to tell a collective story. It’s not just about enjoying a snack, but also about embracing a sense of belonging and cultural pride.
