PUBG MOBILE’s School of Wonder Blends Fun, Learning, and Esports Futures

PUBG MOBILE’s School of Wonder

The line between gaming and education is getting smaller—and more exciting—thanks to a groundbreaking collaboration between PUBG MOBILE’s School of Wonder and Pelangi Publishing Group, one of Malaysia’s most respected educational publishers.

On Saturday, 9 August 2025, nearly 200 enthusiastic secondary school students gathered at Wisma Pelangi for a one-of-a-kind event that blended fun, learning, and esports.

The initiative marks a major step in bridging the gap between interactive entertainment and academic enrichment, proving that when gaming is paired with purpose, the results can be both inspiring and transformative.

Learning, Competing, and Creating

To maximise engagement, students were divided into two groups—each with a distinct mission.

The first group participated in an educational session that focused on two key topics: the importance of healthy gaming habits and the emerging career opportunities in the esports industry.

It was here that the students were introduced to World of Wonder, PUBG MOBILE’s innovative map creation mode. This hands-on feature allowed them to design and customise their own maps, sparking creativity and offering a taste of what goes into building interactive game environments.

Meanwhile, the second group dove straight into an action-packed PUBG MOBILE battle royale tournament. The excitement was electric as teams fought for survival, showcasing their skills, teamwork, and strategic thinking.

The top 8 teams from each group advanced to the Knockout Stage, where the best battled head-to-head in a thrilling finale.

Celebrating Achievements

The day’s events concluded with the talented students from SMK Seksyen 7, Shah Alam taking home a share of the RM2,000 prize pool. Winners also received valuable book vouchers and exclusive PUBG MOBILE merchandise as tokens of their success.

It was more than just about winning—it was about recognising the creativity, discipline, and problem-solving skills these students displayed throughout the event.

Bridging Gaming and Education

For Eugene Chin, Country Manager (Malaysia) of Tencent Games, the event was a clear success:

“We are absolutely thrilled and deeply honored to work alongside Pelangi Publishing Group on this pioneering venture. This event brought together the best of both worlds, proving that when we combine the boundless creativity inherent in gaming with a clear educational purpose, we can inspire and empower the next generation in powerful, innovative, and deeply meaningful ways.”

His sentiments were echoed by Sum Lih Kang, Executive Director at Pelangi Publishing Group:

“This collaboration exemplifies the transformative potential of blending formal education with the dynamic world of gaming. By tapping into what genuinely engages students, we make learning fun, relevant, and highly effective in fostering critical skills.”

Why School of Wonder Matters

The School of Wonder initiative isn’t just about giving students a fun day out—it’s about changing perceptions of gaming. For years, video games have been viewed primarily as entertainment.

Now, with the right guidance, they are proving to be valuable tools for education, creativity, and career preparation.

From designing maps in World of Wonder to competing in esports tournaments, students are not just consuming content—they are creating it, strategising, and collaborating in ways that mirror real-world skill sets.

These experiences foster critical thinking, digital literacy, and teamwork—all essential for success in the modern world.

The partnership between PUBG MOBILE and Pelangi Publishing Group shows that the future of learning doesn’t have to be confined to textbooks and classrooms. By meeting young people where their passions lie—in this case, in the world of gaming—educators and industry leaders can unlock new avenues for skill development.

As more events like School of Wonder are rolled out, Malaysian students will continue to have opportunities to explore the growing possibilities of the esports industry, all while maintaining a balance between fun and responsibility.

For the students who attended, it wasn’t just a gaming event—it was a glimpse into what their futures could look like, whether as game designers, competitive players, streamers, or professionals in the expanding digital economy.

And for the organisers, this is just the beginning.
