With TV’s favourite zombie, Olivia “Liv” Moore back in a new season of iZombie, we are convinced that this surely isn’t a list of “brain food” she is looking out for (real human brains and hot sauce would certainly cut it).
Nonetheless, we have put together a list of five legit brain food fit for mortal beings.
The food you consume on a daily basis does have an impact on your brain function. As your body’s powerhouse, it requires good nutrition to keep it going. There are many articles out there that suggest the various types of food you should consume to boost concentration, memory and even prevent brain diseases.
Have a read of the following brain food you should consume and why.
1. Berries
Berries, be it blueberries, strawberries, raspberries or blackberries almost always makes it at the top of any brain food list.
The antioxidants found in them are said to protect brain cells from oxidative damage.
With this, they do play a vital role in improving your overall cognitive skills including memory, learning and decision making process.
2. Broccoli
Deemed as one of the best brain foods out there, broccoli is loaded with high levels of vitamin K that helps keep your memory sharp.
Aside from that, it is also rich in calcium, vitamin C, vitamin B, beta- carotene, iron and fiber. Coupled together, these nutrients keeps your blood flowing well whilst removing toxins that can damage the brain.
3. Dark Chocolate
That is right! Chocolate, dark that is did make it to this list. Chocolate is known to be filled with antioxidant and anti-inflammatory properties.
They help lower blood pressure and improve blood flow to both the brain and heart. The rule of thumb is the darker the chocolate, the more health benefits it has.
Needless to say, chocolate is known to improve a person’s overall mood!
4. Fish
Your brain loves omega-3 fatty acids as they play an important role in your cognitive function. The omega-3 found in fish improves your learning and memory by increasing the brain’s ability to send and receive messages.
On top of that, it is also great for improving concentration, motivation and your brain’s overall ability to think and process.
5. Whole Grains
Whole grains are rich in complex carbohydrates, fiber and omega-3 fatty acids. They shield the heart and brain from damaging sugar spikes, cholesterol, blood clots, and more.
Grains also contain vitamin B that has a positive effect on blood flow to the brain.
As you start to snack on the above, be sure to catch-up with the brain-hungry Olivia “Liv” Moore in iZombie (Season 3), every Wednesday at 9.50pm, same day as the U.S., on Warner TV (HyppTV Ch 613 and Astro Ch 719).
