Astro Originals has unveiled its newest premium drama series, Honey Trap, a riveting espionage thriller led by a powerful female protagonist and set within a complex political world.
The eight-episode series—plus two special episodes—premieres 20 June 2025, and is a spiritual successor to Astro Originals’ acclaimed political drama KUDETA.
Directed by KUDETA’s Imran Sheik and brought to life by a star-studded cast and writing team, Honey Trap promises to deliver suspense, action, and an emotional dive into power, betrayal, and resilience.
A Return to the World of Masraya
Set in the fictional nation of Masraya, first introduced in KUDETA (2022), Honey Trap shifts the narrative lens from political leadership to the shadowy world of espionage.
It follows Surya Gabriel, a brilliant and daring intelligence operative, whose mission to dismantle a rebel group becomes increasingly personal and morally complex.
As Surya attempts to recruit a key asset close to her enemies, she finds herself trapped between duty and emotion, facing manipulation, moral dilemmas, and a budding romantic connection that threatens everything she stands for.
A Powerful Ensemble and Bold Themes
The series features a dynamic ensemble cast including Nina ‘KSC’ Kho in her first lead role, alongside Ungku Ismail, Syarul Ezani, Irfan Zaini, Amyza Aznan, Michael Chen, Chazzy Nash, Ayez Shaukat Fonseka, and Eugene Ong. Fans of KUDETA will also enjoy surprise appearances by familiar characters from the original series.
Written by a talented team including Ctna Marzuki, Zuli Ismail, Amar Amir, Lemuel Ong, and Yakir “Mo” Zakii, the script explores political games, mental health challenges, and hidden manipulation within institutions—issues rarely seen in Malaysian thrillers.
Executive Producer Raja Jastina Raja Arshad, Head of Astro Shaw, describes Honey Trap as:

Mental Health, Spycraft, and Humanity
Director Imran Sheik revealed that Honey Trap was inspired by his personal experience caring for a loved one with schizophrenia. His aim is not to dramatise mental illness, but to cultivate empathy for those who silently live with such conditions—even in high-stakes roles like espionage.
“Portraying the mindset of someone with mental health challenges entrusted with a national mission was one of our biggest creative challenges,” Imran said. “We wanted to tell a story that’s emotionally grounded yet thrilling.”
Goodday Charge: Fueling the Journey to Greatness
Honey Trap also marks the third strategic collaboration between Astro Originals and Goodday Charge, Malaysia’s first nutrient-enriched milk fortified with 10 essential nutrients.
