Since the launch of Diablo IV, no class has ignited more passionate discussion among the community than the Paladin. After years of anticipation, Blizzard Entertainment has officially confirmed that the iconic holy warrior will return to Sanctuary.

The Paladin will be unveiled on 12 December 2025 (AEDT / UTC+8) following The Game Awards, marking the start of the countdown toward the release of Diablo IV: Lord of Hatred on 28 April 2026.

The Paladin’s arrival is more than just a new class addition—it represents the return of one of Diablo’s most beloved archetypes at a critical moment in the story, as Mephisto’s corruption threatens to consume Sanctuary entirely.

The Paladin stands as Sanctuary’s quintessential holy warrior, a sword-and-shield champion empowered not merely by faith, but by the Light itself. Unlike conventional armored knights, Paladins are forged as divine conduits. Their unwavering devotion allows the Light to flow through them, transforming faith into raw, destructive power against the forces of Hell.

Blizzard has built the Paladin on mechanics deeply rooted in Diablo’s legacy while modernising them for Diablo IV’s visceral combat and grounded aesthetic. Fan-favourite abilities such as Auras, Blessed Hammer, Blessed Shield, and Zeal return with refreshed animations, sound design, and responsiveness.

While Crusaders embodied brute martial strength, the Paladin fully embraces divine power, delivering combat that feels righteous, weighty, and unmistakably celestial.

Honouring a 25-Year Legacy

The Paladin carries more than 25 years of Diablo history, and in Lord of Hatred, the class returns as Sanctuary’s final beacon of divine authority. As Mephisto’s influence spreads across the land, Paladins answer the call with unwavering conviction, sanctifying the battlefield with holy wrath.

While classic elements like Auras and Holy Conjurations honour the Paladin’s past, Blizzard pushes the power fantasy further than ever before. One of the most striking new features is the Arbiter Form, an angelic transformation inspired by Tyrael. In this radiant state, the Paladin ascends as a living embodiment of celestial justice, unleashing divine power with overwhelming presence.

The Paladin is built upon three foundational design pillars that define its gameplay and identity:

The Indomitable Guardian

Paladins are immovable protectors, empowered by faith and fortified by the Light. With shield raised and resolve unbroken, they defend the innocent and stand firm against overwhelming evil.

The Divine Armory

Classic medieval weapons—swords, shields, armor, and holy hammers—form the backbone of the Paladin’s arsenal. However, these tools are more than steel; they are infused and empowered by celestial force, transforming traditional weaponry into instruments of holy judgment.

Iconic skills such as Condemn, Zeal, Blessed Hammer, Blessed Shield, and Heaven’s Fury return with modernised execution. The long-beloved Holy damage type also makes its return, giving the Paladin a clear mechanical identity and reinforcing its role as Heaven’s chosen champion.

A defining feature of the Paladin is the Oath System, a set of sacred paths that reflect the codes of chivalry and faith Paladins swear to uphold. Each Oath rewards players for committing fully to a specific playstyle:

  • Juggernaut focuses on shield-based combat, turning defence into offence. Its ultimate skill, Fortress, makes the Paladin exceptionally difficult to kill.
  • Zealot emphasises frenzied melee combat powered by an updated Zeal skill. The ultimate ability, Zenith, unleashes a massive celestial blade that cleaves through enemies.
  • Judicator delivers holy judgment through conjurations like Blessed Shield, Hammer, Consecration, and Heaven’s Fury.
  • Disciple represents the pinnacle of divine transformation, granting access to the Arbiter Form, angelic flight, and devastating attacks such as Spears of the Heavens.

The Paladin returns to Diablo IV not merely as a new class, but as the ultimate embodiment of faith, legacy, and righteous power—arriving precisely when Sanctuary needs the Light most.
