Overwatch Midseason 5 Goes Live with The Reign of Talon’s Final Showdown and EVE Protocol Collaboration
Blizzard Entertainment has officially rolled out Overwatch Midseason 5, bringing an exciting new wave of content, limited-time events, exclusive cosmetics and collaborations for players. This latest update marks a major milestone as The Reign of Talon, the game’s first year-long narrative arc, reaches its dramatic conclusion.
The final chapter takes players to Rialto, where Doomfist and Overwatch prepare for one last showdown against Vendetta. With several activities and rewards lined up throughout November and December, there are plenty of reasons for players to jump back into the action.
The Reign of Talon Concludes with Taking Reign Event
The highlight of Midseason 5 is Taking Reign, a five-week event running from 4 November to 7 December (AEDT).
As the concluding chapter of The Reign of Talon storyline, the event features 24 tiers of rewards for players to unlock. Those progressing through the Free Pass can earn an Epic Sigma skin recolour, while the Event Pass offers additional rewards, including the Legendary Resurgence Doomfist skin, Vendetta’s new Heroic Weapon and more.
It is a fitting finale for a storyline that has been building towards this major confrontation.
Overwatch x EVE Protocol Brings Futuristic Hero Skins
Another major attraction is the Overwatch x EVE Protocol collaboration, taking place from 4 to 17 November (AEDT).
The crossover introduces futuristic character skins inspired by EVE Protocol, featuring five Overwatch heroes:
- Widowmaker as EVE
- D.Va as Lily
- Freja as Raven
- Vendetta as Tachy
- Soldier: 76 as Adam
This collaboration gives players a fresh way to customise their favourite heroes with a futuristic visual style.
Roadhog Gets a New Mythic Necrotic Knight Skin
For players who enjoy collecting premium cosmetics, Roadhog is also getting something special.
Available from 4 November, the Mythic Necrotic Knight Roadhog skin transforms the hero into a corrupted knight cursed with an endless hunger for souls.
The skin features four customisable levels, allowing players to unlock and personalise its monstrous appearance.
More Events, Loot Boxes and Double XP
Midseason 5 also brings back several fan-favourite activities.
The Excavation Initiative returns from 4 November to 7 December, giving players another opportunity to participate in the event.
Meanwhile, Junkrat’s Loot Hunt makes its return from 21 to 23 November. Players can earn up to nine Loot Boxes without needing to wait for daily resets. Double XP will also be available throughout the event, making it a great opportunity to level up and collect additional rewards.
The popular Drives event will also return from 4 to 7 December, featuring separate Competitive and Quick Play tracks with more rewards to chase.
Black Friday Vault Sale and OWCS World Finals
For collectors looking to expand their cosmetic collections, the Black Friday Vault Sale runs from 4 November to 7 December (AEDT).
The sale features curated bundles of rare cosmetics, including the Peak Mega Bundle, Hero Spotlight Bundles and StarCraft Mega Bundle.
Meanwhile, competitive Overwatch fans can look forward to the OWCS World Finals, taking place in Guangzhou from 3 to 6 December (AEDT).
Players can also participate in the in-game Cheer Rally from 4 to 7 December to claim rewards while following the tournament action.
A Big Finale for Overwatch Players
