It has been a historically successful six years for Astro Arena, ever since its first broadcast on 26 th March 2010, bringing comprehensive coverage in national, regional, and international championships including the latest Rio Olympics 2016 which was also broadcast in high definition (HD).
Astro Arena’s biggest achievement was the 15 hour live coverage of Rio Olympics 2016 where Astro Arena created a new record with the highest viewership rate at 6.5 million during the singles badminton semifinals and the doubles badminton finals match.
Following this milestone, Astro proudly launches Astro Arena HD on channel 802 starting 1 st September.
According to the Vice President of Astro’s Sports Business, Lee Choong Khay, sports enthusiasts can now enjoy a high resolution viewing experience in hand with obtaining the latest local and international sports information on Astro Arena.
“After the successful comprehensive coverage at Rio 2016 in HD, it is time that Malaysian sports fans enjoy high quality broadcasting in the form national and international championships especially for the upcoming SEA Games in Kuala Lumpur next year.
We wish to thank all Malaysians who have supported us from the start till today.”
Meanwhile, Astro Arena’s host, former national hockey player Mirnawan Nawawi and former national squash player Sharon Wee also shared their excitement for Astro Arena HD.
According to Mirnawan, Astro Arena is moving forward with the launch of Astro Arena HD whereby now national sports fans can breathe in the action and enjoy the suspense and outstanding sports experience in high definition.
As for Sharon, this is a sign of recognition of Astro Arena’s effort and commitment in bringing the best to national sports fans as well as a token of appreciation for the fans that have always supported Astro Arena.
Since 2010, Astro Arena has broadcast over 16,000 hours in live sports of national athletes in local and international events and live news (Nadi Arena) as well TV magazine shows.
