BIG CARING Foundation Pledges RM100,000 for Breast Cancer Screening Among B40 Women

BIG CARING Foundation Pledges RM100,000 for Breast Cancer Screening

Supporting Early Detection Through the Ribbon of Hope Campaign

Breast cancer remains one of the major health concerns in Malaysia, but access to early screening and cancer awareness programmes is not always equal, particularly for underserved communities.

In an effort to bridge this gap, BIG CARING Foundation has pledged RM100,000 to support breast cancer screening and cancer care initiatives for women from the B40 community.

The corporate social responsibility and community outreach arm of BIG CARING Group announced the initiative through its Ribbon of Hope Charity Pledge Campaign, in collaboration with Majlis Kanser Nasional (MAKNA). The campaign aims to provide up to 1,000 eligible B40 women with greater access to early breast cancer screening.

The initiative was announced in Klang on 13 August 2026 and forms part of BIG CARING Foundation’s ongoing commitment to cancer awareness, early detection and support for communities in need.

Making Early Breast Cancer Screening More Accessible

According to BIG CARING Group Chief Marketing Officer Wong Siew Lai, the campaign is designed to encourage more people to take proactive steps towards their health while making screening opportunities more accessible.

Through collaboration between BIG CARING Foundation, customers, supplier partners and MAKNA, the campaign hopes to strengthen awareness around the importance of early detection.

Early screening can play an important role in identifying potential health concerns before symptoms become more serious. However, financial considerations and limited access to screening programmes can prevent some individuals from seeking timely examinations.

The RM100,000 pledge is therefore intended to help address some of these barriers, particularly among women from underserved communities.

How Customers Can Support the Campaign

The Ribbon of Hope Charity Pledge Campaign will run until 31 December 2026 at BIG Pharmacy and CARiNG Pharmacy stores nationwide.

Customers can participate by purchasing selected products from participating brands. A portion of proceeds from these products will be contributed towards the campaign by Blackmores, Great Tree, Herbs of Gold, Kordel’s, Syncolife, SwissMed and VitaHealth.

Adding further impact to the initiative, BIG CARING Foundation will match every contribution raised through the campaign.

This approach allows customers to contribute towards cancer awareness and screening efforts through their everyday purchases while supporting a wider community cause.

Ribbon of Hope’s Holistic Approach to Cancer Support

The campaign is part of Ribbon of Hope CSR, BIG CARING Foundation’s signature programme supporting B40 cancer patients through partnerships focused on cancer awareness, early detection, education and patient care.

The programme is guided by its C.A.R.E. pillars, covering Counselling, Affordable Medications and Accessible Services, Rehabilitation and Recovery Resources, as well as Early Detection and Risk Reduction.

Rather than focusing solely on financial assistance, the programme takes a broader approach to supporting patients and their families throughout different stages of the cancer journey.

MAKNA’s Continued Role in Cancer Care

The funds raised through the campaign will support MAKNA’s efforts in cancer care, early detection and education, helping expand screening and awareness programmes for communities across Malaysia.

MAKNA Deputy General Manager Vemanna Appannah welcomed the RM100,000 pledge and matching initiative, highlighting the importance of corporate support in helping close gaps in cancer care.

Established in 1994, MAKNA has supported nearly 90,000 underprivileged cancer patients, while more than 105,000 individuals have benefited from its cancer screening programmes. Its cancer awareness initiatives have also reached more than 132,000 participants nationwide.

A Collective Effort Towards Early Detection

The Ribbon of Hope Charity Pledge Campaign demonstrates how partnerships between businesses, healthcare organisations, suppliers and consumers can contribute to meaningful community healthcare initiatives.

With the campaign targeting up to 1,000 B40 women for breast cancer screening, the initiative could help more women gain access to potentially life-saving early detection opportunities.

For Malaysians, the campaign also serves as a reminder that cancer awareness and screening should not be overlooked. By participating in the campaign at BIG Pharmacy and CARiNG Pharmacy stores nationwide, customers can play a small but meaningful role in supporting better access to cancer screening and care.
