Blizzard Celebrates 30 Years of Diablo with New Warlock Class and Expansions

Blizzard Celebrates 30 Years of Diablo

Blizzard Entertainment has officially kicked off a milestone year for one of gaming’s most iconic franchises with the Diablo 30th Anniversary Spotlight, unveiling major updates across Diablo IV, Diablo Immortal, and Diablo II: Resurrected.

The broadcast delivered a wave of exciting announcements, headlined by the introduction of a brand-new Warlock class spanning multiple titles.

This ambitious cross-franchise expansion signals a bold new era for Diablo as it builds momentum toward BlizzCon 2026 in September.

The Warlock Emerges Across Sanctuary

The biggest reveal from the Spotlight was the debut of the Warlock, a dark spellcaster who harnesses the powers of Hell and turns them against demonic forces. This marks the first time in over 25 years that Diablo II: Resurrected is receiving a brand-new playable class — a historic moment for long-time fans.

Each version of the Warlock reflects a different era of Sanctuary’s timeline:

  • In Diablo II: Resurrected, the Warlock represents the earliest origins of this forbidden magic.
  • In Diablo Immortal, the class evolves into a Vizjerei-rooted demon master.
  • In Diablo IV, the Warlock reaches a darker, more destructive form amid the unfolding Age of Hatred.

While unified by their mastery over demonic forces, each iteration brings distinct gameplay styles tailored to its respective title.

Diablo II: Resurrected – Reign of the Warlock (Available Now)

Available immediately, Reign of the Warlock introduces a Hell-forged summoner class focused on demon binding, transformation, and battlefield domination.

Key Features:

🔥 New Warlock Class

Players can summon and control demonic entities, transform into terrifying forms, and manipulate Hellfire-based abilities.

⚔️ New Endgame Challenge

A revamped Terrorized Acts system allows players to increase difficulty and rewards. Conquering Terrorized Act bosses in Hell difficulty may unlock mystical statues. Combining all five statues reveals the punishing new boss encounter: The Colossal Ancients.

🛠 Quality-of-Life Improvements

  • Loot filters
  • Advanced stash tabs
  • A new Chronicle system to track progression and treasure-hunting legacy

These updates modernize the Diablo II experience while preserving its legendary core.

Diablo Immortal – Andariel Rises

Diablo Immortal Andariel Rises

Blizzard also unveiled Diablo Immortal’s 2026 roadmap, bringing back the iconic Maiden of Anguish, Andariel.

What’s Coming in 2026:

  • The Warlock class, arriving later this year
  • New zones and campaign chapters
  • Special IP collaborations
  • Expanded gameplay systems

The Immortal version of the Warlock leans into forbidden Vizjerei magic, commanding monstrous entities like the Soulgorger.

Lut Gholein Returns

The fan-favorite city returns in a fractured state, divided into:

  • Common Ward – chaotic and devastated
  • High Ward – eerie yet elegant

The setting reflects its tragic desecration under Hell’s influence.

Diablo IV: Lord of Hatred (Launching 28 April AEDT)

Diablo IV’s upcoming expansion, Lord of Hatred, brings players face-to-face with Mephisto’s growing power in Sanctuary.

Two New Classes: Warlock and Paladin

Diablo IV introduces its own interpretation of the Warlock — a heavy-metal-inspired destroyer wielding chains, flame, and raw demonic fury. Standing opposite is the Paladin, channeling divine light in the ultimate clash between corruption and righteousness.

More Warlock details will be revealed during a Live Developer Update on 6 March.

Systems & Endgame Evolution

Echoing Hatred Encounters

Blizzard is also revamping Diablo IV’s endgame systems:

  • War Plans – Customizable progression paths for endgame content
  • Echoing Hatred Encounters – Escalating enemy waves that push builds to their limits

These systems aim to offer greater control, challenge, and replayability.

New Region: Skovos

The final confrontation with Mephisto unfolds in Skovos, an ancient Mediterranean-inspired region where humanity first emerged. Expect new quests, characters, and terrifying monsters in this lore-rich setting.

A Milestone Year for Diablo

The Diablo 30th Anniversary Spotlight marks the beginning of a major franchise evolution. With a new cross-game class, expanded endgame systems, revived legacy locations, and major 2026 roadmaps, Blizzard is positioning Diablo for its most ambitious year yet.

The Warlock’s arrival across multiple games not only honors Diablo’s dark heritage but pushes its future into uncharted territory.

As Sanctuary braces for escalating threats and Mephisto’s influence spreads, one thing is clear — the fires of Hell are burning brighter than ever.

Blizzard’s milestone year has only just begun.
