Ordering food for a group can sometimes be more complicated than it sounds. From deciding what everyone wants to eat to collecting payments after the meal is ordered, organising food for friends, family or colleagues often comes with a few challenges.
Recognising these everyday frustrations, foodpanda Malaysia and Ryt Bank have teamed up to make group meals simpler, from ordering food to settling shared expenses.
The partnership was formalised through a Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) signed on 7 September 2026. It brings together foodpanda’s food delivery and dining ecosystem with Ryt Bank’s digital banking capabilities, with the collaboration initially focusing on foodpanda Group Order and Ryt Groups.
Making Group Food Orders Less Complicated
Group meals are common in Malaysia, whether it is lunch with colleagues, dinner with friends or a family gathering. However, getting everyone to agree on what to order can sometimes take more time than expected.
According to a recent foodpanda Malaysia poll involving 1,750 respondents, deciding what to eat was identified as the biggest challenge when organising a group order, at 38%.
The second biggest frustration was chasing everyone for payment, which accounted for 29% of responses. Other challenges included someone changing their order at the last minute at 17%, while 16% said waiting for everyone to respond was another common problem.
These findings highlight two important parts of the group dining experience that foodpanda and Ryt Bank are looking to address: ordering and payment.
foodpanda Group Order Makes Ordering Easier
Through foodpanda Group Order, everyone in a group can add their own food choices to one shared order.
Instead of one person having to collect everyone’s food preferences, the feature allows group members to contribute their own selections. This can make the ordering process more organised while reducing the need to constantly message each other about what everyone wants.
For groups ordering from foodpanda, the feature could be particularly useful for office lunches, gatherings with friends and family meals where several people have different preferences.
The idea is simple: everyone gets to choose what they want while the group keeps everything within one shared food order.
Ryt Groups Helps Manage Shared Expenses
While foodpanda Group Order focuses on the ordering experience, Ryt Groups complements it by helping users manage and settle shared expenses.
This addresses another common part of group dining — figuring out who has paid and who still needs to settle their share.
By bringing digital banking into the group meal journey, the partnership aims to make the process of splitting and settling expenses more convenient.
Kenneth Soh, Managing Director of foodpanda Malaysia, said the company is looking at the entire customer journey rather than focusing only on the food ordering process.
He added that group meals are an important part of how Malaysians come together, and improving the experience involves making the overall process more seamless and convenient.
Up to RM15 foodpanda Voucher for Eligible Ryt Bank Customers
To kick off the partnership, eligible Ryt Bank customers can also enjoy a promotional reward.
From now until 21 October 2026, eligible customers who complete a qualifying Ryt Groups settlement can unlock a foodpanda voucher worth up to RM15 through the Ryt Bank app.
The offer provides an additional incentive for customers to explore the new group expense feature while enjoying their next meal with friends, family or colleagues.
Customers should check the Ryt Bank app for the applicable terms and qualifying requirements before participating.
More Digital Initiatives Planned
The collaboration between foodpanda and Ryt Bank goes beyond group dining.
According to both companies, the MOU establishes a broader framework for exploring opportunities across payments, customer rewards, merchant engagement, delivery partner financial literacy programmes and other digital initiatives.
Wilson Soon, Interim CEO of Ryt Bank, said the partnership provides an opportunity to bring digital banking closer to everyday experiences that Malaysians already engage with, including paying for meals and managing shared expenses.
The two companies will continue exploring additional ways their respective ecosystems and digital capabilities can work together.
A More Seamless Group Dining Experience
With foodpanda Group Order and Ryt Groups as the starting point, the partnership aims to address two familiar challenges associated with group meals — deciding what to order and settling the bill.
For Malaysians who regularly order food with friends, colleagues or family, having dedicated tools for both parts of the experience could make group dining more straightforward.
As food delivery and digital banking continue to become part of everyday life, the foodpanda and Ryt Bank collaboration also demonstrates how different digital services can work together to simplify common daily activities.
With more initiatives expected from the partnership, it will be interesting to see how foodpanda and Ryt Bank continue to develop their shared digital ecosystem for Malaysian consumers.
