GREJSIMOJS by IKEA Malaysia Brings Joyful Design into Everyday Homes

GREJSIMOJS by IKEA Malaysia

What if your home could feel a little more playful, expressive and alive — not just for children, but for everyone?

IKEA Malaysia believes play should not be limited to playgrounds or kids’ rooms. With the launch of GREJSIMOJS, a 33-piece home collection designed to spark imagination and joy, IKEA is encouraging Malaysians to let their homes “come out and play.”

The name GREJSIMOJS — a colloquial Swedish term meaning “thingamajig” — perfectly reflects the spirit of the collection: curious, light-hearted and full of personality.

Play Is for Everyone

At its core, GREJSIMOJS is inspired by insights from the IKEA Play Report, which highlights the powerful role of play in daily life. According to the research, play can reduce stress, boost creativity and strengthen connections between family members.

In today’s fast-paced world, where both adults and children spend more time on screens and structured routines, physical and spontaneous play is becoming less common. Yet many parents say they want to play more with their children — they just face barriers such as limited time, space and inspiration.

This is where GREJSIMOJS comes in.

Rather than creating a separate “play zone,” IKEA integrates playful elements into everyday furniture and home accessories — blending fun with function.

Where Design Meets Imagination

The GREJSIMOJS collection embraces tactile textures, expressive shapes and cheerful colours. Each item is designed to feel playful while remaining practical and easy to live with.

One of the highlights is the iconic MAMMUT chair, first introduced 30 years ago. Now, it gets a whimsical makeover with furry chair covers in bright pink or blue — instantly transforming a familiar favourite into a bold statement piece.

Storage solutions take on delightful new forms. Think friendly cat-inspired containers and speakers shaped like playful mice in purple or green. A classic storage pouffe hides a cheeky surprise — when opened, it reveals an inner “monster,” adding an element of unexpected fun.

Meanwhile, a rocking horse is reimagined as a bird, blurring the line between sculpture and toy. It becomes not just a children’s play item, but also a conversation-starting decorative piece.

These objects are designed to be seen, touched and enjoyed — not stored away when guests arrive.

Designed for Malaysian Homes

“In Malaysia, our homes are where we spend time together, unwind after long days and create everyday moments with the people we care about.

GREJSIMOJS reflects our belief that play should feel natural and accessible, not something extra or complicated. Through playful yet functional design at affordable prices, we hope to inspire Malaysians to create homes that feel more expressive, comfortable and full of life for children and adults alike.” –Malcolm Pruys, Country Retail Director, IKEA Malaysia.

The collection is intentionally designed to blend seamlessly into the home — long after playtime is over.

According to Anna Granath, Range Identity Leader for IKEA, the design team was given creative freedom to bring together both adult and child perspectives.

“GREJSIMOJS is meant to be a visible part of the home furnishing, with objects that are beautifully designed to fit the home, even after the children have gone to bed,”

From a statement rug that doubles as a crawling landscape for toddlers, to lamps inspired by the gentle silhouette of a giraffe casting a soft night glow — every piece tells a story.

Inspired by Childhood Memories

Interestingly, many designers drew inspiration from their own childhood experiences.

Some remembered objects in the home they longed to play with but were told not to touch. With GREJSIMOJS, they recreated those ideas — but this time, in a home where nothing is off limits.

Others were inspired by observing everyday objects differently. A simple lamp rotation suddenly resembled the head of a giraffe. A storage box became a playful creature. A pouffe turned into a hidden surprise.

This reinterpretation of daily objects transforms the home into a space of curiosity and imagination.

The Five Playtypes Framework

GREJSIMOJS is also rooted in IKEA’s research-based framework known as IKEA Playtypes, which identifies five natural ways people engage in play:

  • Explore – Discovering new textures and forms
  • Create – Building and expressing ideas
  • Imagine – Storytelling and role-playing
  • Move – Physical interaction and activity
  • Compete – Friendly challenges and games

By designing products that naturally invite touch, movement and curiosity, IKEA ensures that play happens organically within daily routines — whether it’s rearranging cushions, interacting with tactile surfaces or transforming furniture into imaginative props.

A Home That Feels Alive

Ultimately, GREJSIMOJS is more than a product collection. It is a reminder that homes should reflect personality and emotion — not just functionality.

In Malaysian households where multi-generational living is common and spaces are shared, creating moments of light-hearted joy can strengthen bonds and reduce everyday stress.

Through expressive shapes, soft textures and cheerful colours, IKEA Malaysia is encouraging families to rethink what home design can be.

Because sometimes, all it takes is a furry chair, a playful lamp or a smiling storage box to remind us that play does not end with childhood.

And maybe — just maybe — our homes deserve to have a little fun too.

The IKEA GREJSIMOJS collection will be available across all IKEA Malaysia stores at IKEA Damansara, IKEA Cheras, IKEA Tebrau and IKEA Batu Kawan as well as online at IKEA.my from 12 February 2026.
