Malaysia’s beloved local superhero, Keluang Man, soared into real life as over 7000 fans gathered in the heart of Kuala Lumpur to take part in the Keluang Man WONDA Fun Run.
Held in collaboration with Astro Shaw, WONDA Coffee, and Dewan Bandaraya Kuala Lumpur (DBKL), the 5 km run fused pop culture with community spirit, fitness, and national pride.
The run was held in conjunction with DBKL’s Car-Free Morning, making it a landmark event as Malaysia’s first original superhero-themed fun run.
Starting from Menara DBKL, participants of all ages began the morning with warm-ups at 6:45 am, followed by the official flag-off at 7:00 am led by the iconic Keluang Man, mascot BeBe, and Kuala Lumpur Mayor YBhg. Dato’ Seri TPr (Dr.) Maimunah Mohd Sharif.
A Cultural Milestone for Local Entertainment
This energetic gathering wasn’t just a fun fitness event—it was a strategic and emotional prelude to the highly anticipated Keluang Man live-action film, premiering nationwide on 29 May 2025.
For Astro Shaw, the fun run was part of a larger cultural branding effort to bring Malaysia’s nostalgic superhero to a modern audience.
Raja Jastina Raja Arshad, Executive Producer of the film and Head of Astro Shaw, expressed heartfelt appreciation:
“This isn’t just a celebration of the film’s upcoming release—it’s about bringing the Keluang Man universe closer to the people… We hope these values inspire Malaysians to stay active and believe that everyone has a superhero within them.”
Fans Go All Out in Keluang Man Cosplay
Participants didn’t hold back in showing their love for the hero. Many arrived in creative and humorous Keluang Man costumes, giving the event a vibrant, festive atmosphere.
The crowd was treated to a superhero-filled experience, complete with appearances from the film’s cast members such as Nas Muammar Zar, Datuk Rosyam Nor, Shweta Sekhon, and Anwaar Beg Moghal.
Adding to the thrill were performances from Krisya, vocalist of the film’s theme song, and local rock legends S.O.G.. Fans also enjoyed exclusive photo ops, meet-and-greets, and live radio coverage by Malaysia’s top station, ERA.
WONDA Coffee Energizes National Pride
The event also marked a milestone in WONDA Coffee’s ongoing campaign to celebrate local heroes and instill cultural pride through immersive experiences.
Building on the momentum of the limited-edition Keluang Man can series, exclusive merchandise, and even the quirky Wonda-ful Keluang Man Burger with myBurgerLab, the Fun Run brought this innovative branding effort full circle.
Amy Gan, Vice President of Marketing at Etika (WONDA Coffee’s parent company), shared:
“It’s not just about coffee or running—it’s about showing up, dressing up, and standing proud for something homegrown. We’re honoured to be part of this celebration of strength, courage, and national creativity.”
So far, over 2 million cans of Kopi Kluang have been sold, indicating how much the character and campaign have resonated with Malaysians.
Beyond the 5 km route, attendees explored interactive booths, enjoyed free Wonda Kopi Kluang samples, and indulged in the Wonda-ful Keluang Man Burger with myBurgerLab,.
Lucky draws and sponsor showcases from Iconic Animation Studio, Fung Keong, and Abstrax added even more colour and excitement to the morning. The event wasn’t just a run—it was a multi-sensory celebration of Malaysian creativity, nostalgia, and unity.
Keluang Man Movie – Coming to Cinemas 29 May
Directed by Anwari Ashraf, the upcoming Keluang Man film features an ensemble cast including Dato’ Remy Ishak, Amelia Henderson, Sham Sunder, and many others.
The film is a collaboration between Astro Shaw, GSC, Idea River Run, and WONDA Coffee, with Pasal Productions as co-producer.
This live-action adaptation promises to reintroduce the legendary animated character to a whole new generation of fans. From a symbol of childhood nostalgia to a symbol of unity and resilience, Keluang Man is now more relevant than ever.
