Uprising funnyman, Kavin Jay is all set for big things this 2018. For those of you who have yet to witness his skillful comedic timing, ruthless complaints and political satire, buckle up because Netflix is putting him on the map with his very own special.
Kavin will be joining the ranks of world famous comedians Russell Peters, Kevin Hart, Chris Tucker, Gabriel Iglesias, and many more who all have Netflix Originals.
Available from February 2, the Netflix Original “Kavin Jay: Everybody Calm Down!” will give you an hour of Kavin’s best jokes and anecdotes.
“It feels like a dream, from watching my heroes on netflix, to having my own special, right alongside the greats. Someone pinch me!” exclaimed Kavin.
An introduction for the show describes him as “being Malaysian Indian, Kavin Jay has lived life with a severe disability and was always destined to be angry and easily irritated. He was voted Malaysia’s grumpiest comedian because he complains about everything so that you don’t have to. You’re welcome!”
The 38-year-old comedian and Kuala Lumpur native has been doing comedy since 2006. But if it weren’t for his late brother, Kavin would not have ventured into his comedian path. It was a journey of trial and error where he eventually learnt that the art of comedy has its own science and methodology behind it.
Since leaving his engineering career, some of his performance highlights include performing for a St Patrick’s Day celebration in a 15,000 strong crowd, the Mumbai Pajama Comedy Festival in 2014, Singapore Fringe festival in 2016 and in 2017 at the prestigious Perth Fringe Festival and Edinburgh Fringe Festival.
He has even performed live alongside comedians such as Dave Callan, Pierre Hollins, Vir Das, JJ Whitehead, Chris Wainhouse and more besides also being featured on Comedy Central Asia, BBC2 and ABC.
Kavin is not the only Malaysian being featured with his own show on Netflix. Joining the list is none other than the Godfather of Comedy in Malaysia, Harith Iskander and a fellow Southeast Asian comedian from Singapore, Fakkah Fuzz.
“Everybody Calm Down!” promises to be intense, politically incorrect and will showcase Kavin’s warped sense of love, life and liver. Watch the premiere on February 2nd, only on Netflix.
