Malaysia continues its push towards electrification, Shell Recharge has made a groundbreaking move by launching the country’s first East Coast to West Coast High-Performance Charging (HPC) network.
This milestone development, announced in Kuala Terengganu on March 12, 2025, provides up to 180kW fast charging, enabling effortless long-distance travel for electric vehicle (EV) users across Peninsular Malaysia.
A Milestone in Malaysia’s EV Infrastructure
The introduction of the East-West HPC network is a game-changer for Malaysia’s EV community. While Shell had already established a robust North-South HPC corridor spanning Johor to Perak, this new expansion bridges a crucial gap by connecting Kuala Lumpur to Terengganu.
For daily commuters, long-distance travelers, and those embarking on festive journeys during peak seasons like Hari Raya, this network offers a convenient, stress-free charging solution, reducing range anxiety and enhancing the overall EV ownership experience.
According to Seow Lee Ming, General Manager of Mobility & Convenience at Shell Malaysia, the company remains committed to supporting Malaysia’s transition to sustainable energy.
“The East Coast has long been regarded as a challenging region for HPC EV charging, and Shell is stepping up to change that. With the launch of our latest Shell Recharge HPC network in Pahang and Terengganu, we are bridging a critical gap in ultra-fast charging solutions along the East Coast corridor.”
Expanding High-Performance Charging Accessibility
Shell Recharge has steadily increased its HPC network since launching its first site in Tangkak, Johor. One of the most notable developments is the record-breaking EV charging hub at Genting Highlands.
Now, with the East-West expansion, the company is reinforcing its vision of a connected, accessible charging network that empowers EV drivers to travel farther with confidence.
This initiative also strengthens Shell’s collaboration with leading automotive brands. The Shell Recharge and Porsche high-performance charging network, for example, ensures that Porsche EV owners benefit from exclusive perks such as additional reservation allowances and special charging tariffs nationwide.
Christopher Hunter, CEO of Sime Darby Auto Performance, highlighted the growing demand for EVs in Malaysia, emphasizing that
“Since the launch of the Taycan, we’ve seen a positive response towards EV adoption. With our latest Taycan and Macan models, drivers can now recharge from 10% to 80% State of Charge (SoC) in as little as 18 to 21 minutes using Shell Recharge’s high-powered DC chargers.”
The New Shell LPT 1 R&R Temerloh HPC Site
A key addition to the network is the Shell LPT 1 R&R Temerloh HPC site, strategically placed along the KL-bound route to provide more options for EV drivers.
This site expands Shell’s HPC network to a total of 13 stations, all equipped with cutting-edge 180kW chargers for ultra-fast charging capabilities.
Beyond just expanding charging locations, Shell is committed to enhancing the user experience. Key Shell stations along major routes are equipped with rest areas, convenience stores, and Shell Café outlets, ensuring that EV users can refresh and refuel themselves while their vehicles charge.
Hari Raya Festive Promotions for EV Users
To celebrate the launch and the upcoming Hari Raya festive period, Shell is introducing attractive credit rebates for EV users charging at Shell Recharge HPC stations along the East Coast Expressway.
From March 24 to April 4, 2025, EV drivers can charge their vehicles using the ParkEasy app and enjoy exclusive promotions.
Platinum Members will receive a 100% credit rebate, while Gold Members and pay-per-use users will enjoy a 50% rebate. Rebates will be credited within seven days after the campaign ends, subject to terms and conditions.
Driving the Future of EV Adoption in Malaysia
The launch of Malaysia’s first East-West HPC network represents a significant step toward a more sustainable and electrified future. By removing key barriers to EV travel, Shell Recharge is paving the way for greater adoption of electric vehicles in the country.
