Malaysia’s esports scene continues to make waves on the international stage as Team Vertice emerged victorious at the Samsung #PlayGalaxy Cup 2026 Southeast Asia Regional Qualifiers.
The impressive achievement secured the team a coveted spot at the #PlayGalaxy Cup World Finals, which will take place during Gamescom 2026 in Cologne, Germany.
The victory marks another milestone for Malaysian esports, showcasing the growing talent and competitiveness of local players in one of the world’s most popular mobile gaming titles, PUBG Mobile.
Team Vertice Dominates Southeast Asia
Held on 13 June 2026, the Southeast Asia Regional Qualifiers featured some of the region’s strongest PUBG Mobile teams from countries including Vietnam, Indonesia, Thailand, and the Philippines.
Despite facing intense competition, Team Vertice demonstrated remarkable teamwork, strategic gameplay, and consistency throughout the tournament. The squad, consisting of Dep, San, ICAA, and Kluq, successfully outperformed their rivals to claim the championship title.
Their triumph not only earned them regional bragging rights but also a chance to represent Southeast Asia at the global finals later this year.
As runners-up, Team Vonzy from Indonesia also secured qualification for the World Finals, where both teams will compete against champions from other regions around the world.
Malaysia’s Rising Esports Talent
Leading Team Vertice was Muhammad Nur Ihsan bin Ismail, better known in the local gaming community as San Gaming. As a member of #TeamGalaxy, Ihsan has steadily built a reputation as one of Malaysia’s rising esports talents.
Following the team’s victory, Ihsan expressed his gratitude towards his teammates and highlighted the importance of trust and communication throughout the competition.
According to him, the team remained focused on improving after every match, regardless of mistakes or setbacks encountered during gameplay. This mindset ultimately helped them maintain their momentum and secure the championship.
The qualification for Gamescom 2026 also carries personal significance for Ihsan, who revealed that competing in Germany has long been one of his dreams. Representing Malaysia on the world stage is an opportunity he and his teammates intend to make the most of.
Building on International Experience
The #PlayGalaxy Cup victory is not the first international success for San Gaming this year.
Earlier in February 2026, he was selected to participate in a global PUBG Mobile tournament in San Francisco. There, he joined a multinational squad consisting of #TeamGalaxy representatives from various countries.
The team went on to win the championship, giving Ihsan valuable exposure to international competition and the opportunity to learn from some of the best mobile esports players in the world.
That experience appears to have paid off, helping him lead Team Vertice through one of the toughest regional competitions in Southeast Asia.
Looking ahead to Gamescom, the team has already begun preparing for the challenges that await them.
“We’re going to study our future opponents and continue training every day,” Ihsan shared when discussing the team’s preparation plans for the World Finals.
Powered by Samsung Galaxy S26 Ultra
One unique aspect of the #PlayGalaxy Cup is its focus on showcasing the gaming capabilities of Samsung Galaxy devices.
During the tournament, all participating teams competed using the Samsung Galaxy S26 Ultra, Samsung’s latest flagship smartphone designed to deliver high-performance mobile gaming experiences.
The Galaxy S26 Ultra is powered by the Snapdragon® 8 Elite Gen 5 processor and features a custom application processor developed in collaboration with Samsung.
According to Samsung, the device offers:

These improvements help ensure smooth gameplay, responsive controls, and consistent performance during intense competitive matches.
Samsung Continues Supporting Esports Growth
Samsung Malaysia views esports as an important platform for nurturing future digital talent while connecting gaming communities across the region.
Matthew Ng, Head of Mobile Experience at Samsung Malaysia Electronics, described Team Vertice’s achievement as a proud moment for both Malaysia and Southeast Asia.
He highlighted how advancements in mobile technology continue to create new opportunities for competitive gaming by providing players with powerful tools to train, compete, and connect with the global esports ecosystem.
Through initiatives such as #PlayGalaxy Cup and TeamGalaxy, Samsung continues to support aspiring esports athletes while promoting innovation in mobile gaming.
Eyes on Gamescom 2026
With the Southeast Asia title secured, Team Vertice now turns its attention to the #PlayGalaxy Cup World Finals at Gamescom 2026.
As one of the largest gaming and interactive entertainment events in the world, Gamescom provides the perfect stage for Malaysia’s latest esports champions to showcase their talent on a global level.
For Team Vertice, the journey is far from over. Their victory at the regional qualifiers is just the beginning of a much larger challenge ahead.
With months of preparation still to come, Malaysian fans will be eagerly watching as Dep, San, ICAA, and Kluq prepare to carry the nation’s hopes into Germany and compete against the world’s best PUBG Mobile teams.
If their performance in Southeast Asia is any indication, Team Vertice may very well become Malaysia’s next big esports success story.
