MAH Towerrunning Championship 2026 Elevates Sports Tourism in Malaysia

MAH Towerrunning Championship 2026 Press Conference

Malaysia’s urban sports scene is set to reach new heights with the launch of the MAH Towerrunning Championship 2026 (MTC2026), an exciting vertical race organised by the Malaysian Association of Hotels (MAH) and the Malaysia Towerrunning Association (MTA).

This landmark championship represents a major step forward in positioning Malaysia as a premier sports tourism destination while introducing a unique sporting experience that transforms high-rise hotels into vertical sporting arenas.

First Championship to Take Place at THE FACE Suites Kuala Lumpur

The inaugural MAH Towerrunning Championship will take place on 11 April 2026 at THE FACE Suites, one of Kuala Lumpur’s iconic high-rise hotels.

Unlike traditional running events, towerrunning challenges participants to race up staircases inside skyscrapers, testing endurance, speed and mental strength.

Participation fees are set at:

  • RM60 for MAH members
  • RM80 for public participants

The event will feature multiple race categories to encourage broad participation, including:

  • Men’s Open
  • Women’s Open
  • MAH Member Men’s Category
  • MAH Member Women’s Category
  • Group Team Category

Priority registration will be given to members of the Malaysia Towerrunning Association’s elite 100 Floors Club, followed by former members, before opening to the general public.

Supporting Malaysia’s Sports Tourism Vision

The championship is more than just a race — it is part of a strategic effort to strengthen Malaysia’s sports tourism industry.

MAH Kuala Lumpur Chapter Chairman and Organising Chairman, BE Lim, emphasised the long-term vision behind the initiative.

He shared that the goal is to develop the championship into a recognised annual event that attracts both local and international participants.

He also highlighted how hotels can serve as exciting sporting venues, creating new opportunities for the hospitality industry to engage with fitness communities and younger audiences.

Malaysia’s Unique Strength in Towerrunning

According to MTA President Ravinder Singh, Malaysia has strong potential in towerrunning, having already produced a world champion in the sport.

He noted that Malaysia’s urban landscape, filled with skyscrapers, makes it an ideal location for towerrunning competitions.

Kuala Lumpur, in particular, ranks among the top cities globally for buildings exceeding 150 metres in height, offering a perfect environment for vertical racing events.

By opening high-rise buildings to sports activities, the championship introduces towerrunning to a wider audience while showcasing Malaysia’s modern skyline.

Strengthening Visit Malaysia 2026 Campaign

The championship also supports Malaysia’s broader tourism goals under the Visit Malaysia 2026 campaign.

Akbal Setia, Head of the Visit Malaysia 2026 Secretariat, explained that modern travellers are increasingly seeking immersive and memorable experiences rather than traditional sightseeing alone.

He added that supporting emerging sports events like towerrunning aligns with Malaysia’s strategy to diversify tourism offerings and attract new visitor segments.

Sports tourism has become a growing global trend, and unique events like towerrunning provide Malaysia with a competitive advantage.

Memorandum of Understanding Marks Long-Term Partnership

A key highlight of the launch was the signing of a Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) between MAH and MTA.

This agreement formalises their collaboration and sets the foundation for long-term development of towerrunning in Malaysia.

The partnership aims to:

  1. Promote towerrunning nationwide
  2. Expand future competitions
  3. Strengthen Malaysia’s sports tourism ecosystem

A New Annual Sporting Tradition in Malaysia

The MAH Towerrunning Championship is envisioned as the first in an annual series, with plans to expand the event in the coming years.

By combining fitness, tourism and hospitality, the championship offers a fresh approach to sporting events in Malaysia.

It also highlights how hotels can evolve beyond accommodation providers into dynamic lifestyle and sporting venues.

With growing interest in urban sports and fitness challenges, the MAH Towerrunning Championship 2026 is expected to attract strong participation from athletes, fitness enthusiasts and adventure seekers.

Elevating Malaysia’s Position in Global Urban Sports

The introduction of towerrunning championships reflects Malaysia’s commitment to innovation in sports tourism.

As cities worldwide explore new sporting formats, Malaysia is positioning itself as a leader in urban sports experiences.

With its iconic skyline, strong hospitality industry and passionate sports community, Kuala Lumpur provides the perfect setting for this exciting new championship.

The MAH Towerrunning Championship 2026 marks the beginning of a new era, where skyscrapers become arenas and runners conquer heights instead of distances.
