Putrajaya was transformed into a vibrant sea of blue as more than 10,000 runners gathered at Anjung Floria for the highly anticipated Skechers Friendship Walk and Run 2026, making it the largest edition in the event’s history.
For Bro Samurai, this year’s event carried a deeper meaning. Beyond being part of one of Malaysia’s most popular running events, it marked a personal milestone — completing his very first 21KM Half Marathon at the Skechers Friendship Walk and Run.
A Record-Breaking Edition
Now in its ninth year, Skechers Friendship Walk and Run 2026 achieved a remarkable milestone by attracting 10,000 participants, a 25% increase from last year’s 8,000 runners.
The growing participation reflects the event’s popularity among fitness enthusiasts, casual runners, and families across Malaysia. This year’s event featured three race categories designed to cater to different fitness levels and goals:
- 21KM Half Marathon
- 10KM Competitive Run
- 5KM Fun Run
The newly introduced 21KM category quickly became the highlight of the event, attracting runners eager to push their limits and take on a greater challenge.
Taking on My First 21KM Challenge
To be honest, signing up for the 21KM category felt both exciting and intimidating.
While Bro Samurai had participated in several 10KM and 15KM races before, stepping up to a half marathon was a completely different experience. It required more preparation, greater endurance, and stronger mental determination.
Race day began early. By 4:00 AM, Anjung Floria was already buzzing with energy as thousands of runners gathered in their blue event shirts. The atmosphere was electric, with participants warming up, taking photos, and sharing words of encouragement before the start.
As the starting horn sounded, the excitement quickly gave way to focus. The first few kilometres felt comfortable as runners settled into their pace while enjoying the scenic routes around Putrajaya.
The real challenge, however, came much later.
The Toughest Kilometres
For Bro Samurai, the toughest stretch arrived after the 17KM mark.
By then, fatigue had started to set in. Legs felt heavier with every step, and maintaining pace became increasingly difficult. The physical challenge was expected, but the mental battle proved even tougher.
What kept Bro moving forward was the incredible spirit shared among participants. Fellow runners encouraged one another throughout the course. Some exchanged smiles, others offered motivational words, while volunteers stationed along the route provided much-needed support and refreshments.
Moments like these reminded Bro that running events are about more than individual achievements. They are about community, perseverance, and inspiring one another to keep going.
As the finish line finally came into view, the feeling was indescribable.
Crossing that line after completing 21KM for the first time brought a sense of accomplishment that made every kilometre worthwhile.
A Lively Race Village Experience
The excitement continued even after the race ended.
Participants gathered at the Race Village where various post-race activities helped maintain the festive atmosphere. The Windrunners team led stretching sessions to aid recovery for 21KM and 10KM runners, while energetic Zumba sessions encouraged participants to celebrate their achievement together.
One of the most popular attractions was the Skechers Photo Wall, featuring the names of all participants from the three race categories. Many runners took the opportunity to capture memorable photos with friends and family after completing their respective races.
Running for a Meaningful Cause
Beyond promoting health and fitness, Skechers Friendship Walk and Run 2026 also carried a charitable purpose.
This year, Skechers Malaysia partnered with the National Cancer Council Malaysia (MAKNA) and contributed RM10,000 to support underprivileged cancer patients and their families.
The initiative highlighted how sporting events can create positive social impact while bringing communities together for a meaningful cause.
Celebrating Outstanding Performances
The competitive categories witnessed impressive performances from some of Malaysia’s top runners.
In the 21KM Open Men’s category, Mohamad Nur Radzman claimed victory with a time of 1 hour 15 minutes and 45 seconds, while Chew Jia Qi won the Open Women’s category with a time of 1 hour 30 minutes and 42 seconds.
Meanwhile, the 10KM category saw Prabudass Krishnan and Nurul Juliana Shakira emerge as champions in their respective divisions.
Winners received cash prizes worth RM1,000 alongside Skechers vouchers valued at RM1,000.
More Than Just a Running Event
Skechers Friendship Walk and Run 2026 proved once again why it remains one of Malaysia’s most beloved running events.
It successfully brought together people from all walks of life, promoted healthy living, and supported an important charitable cause. For Bro Samurai, however, the event will always be remembered for something more personal — completing a first-ever 21KM Half Marathon.
The journey was challenging, exhausting, and at times overwhelming, but it also served as a reminder that every finish line begins with a single step.
And after conquering 21KM, perhaps it is time to start thinking about the next challenge
