Asian Esports Games 2024- Mobile Legends Unites Women’s Esports

As the highly anticipated Asian Esports Games (AEG) 2024 approaches, Mobile Legends: Bang Bang (MLBB) takes center stage in promoting inclusivity and diversity as the exclusive game for the women’s competition.

Set in Bangkok, Thailand, from November 25 to 27, the event organized by the Thailand Esports Federation (TESF) and sanctioned by the Asian Electronic Sports Federation (AESF) promises a groundbreaking experience for fans and players across Asia.

MLBB Leads the Charge for Women’s Esports

This year’s AEG will host 20 regional teams in the MLBB women’s competition, making it one of the largest and most diverse events in women’s esports.

Teams from Southeast Asia, South Asia, Central Asia, and the Middle East will compete, setting a new milestone for female representation in the competitive gaming world. Countries such as Malaysia, Thailand, Indonesia, China, and the Philippines will be joined by first-time participants like Mongolia, Tajikistan, and Nepal.

This diverse lineup reflects the rising popularity of MLBB and highlights the inclusivity within the esports community, paving the way for more female gamers to join the competitive stage.

Ray Ng, Head of Esports Ecosystem at MOONTON Games, praised the AESF and TESF for their commitment to fostering diversity in esports.

“This year’s Asian Esports Games marks another huge milestone for women’s esports,” Ng stated. “The representation of 20 regions in the MLBB women’s tournament exemplifies our dedication to diversity and the passion for creating a competitive platform that encourages inclusivity on a global level.”

Indonesia Aims for a Comeback

One of the highlights of the event will be the Indonesia women’s team, a powerful contender looking to reclaim its former dominance.

Comprising players from Team Vitality, the team held a 24-match winning streak until their recent loss to the Filipino team, Smart Omega Empress, in the MLBB Women’s Invitational (MWI) 2024.

The Indonesian team’s participation in the AEG 2024 marks an opportunity to prove their resilience and commitment to victory. Smart Omega Empress, on the other hand, will be eager to defend their newly established reputation after their historic win in Riyadh.

A particularly significant participant is China, whose women’s team will be competing on the Southeast Asian stage for the first time.

This event not only highlights China’s deepening involvement in global esports but also demonstrates the expanding reach of MLBB as a unifying force across cultures.

Thailand: Building a Central Hub for Esports

Hosting the AEG 2024 is a proud moment for Thailand as it strengthens its position as a leader in esports in Asia. Supported by the Sports Authority of Thailand, the event further cements Bangkok’s reputation as a central hub for major regional competitions.

As Thailand gears up to host the 33rd Southeast Asian Games in 2025, the AEG highlights the nation’s commitment to advancing esports infrastructure and talent.

TESF President Santi Lothong expressed his pride in organizing the event: “We believe that by providing a platform for women to compete at an international level, we can inspire the next generation of esports athletes across the region.”

The Future of Women’s Esports in Asia

With record-breaking participation and teams from regions that have not traditionally been represented, AEG 2024 is set to be a landmark event in the world of esports.

Fans across the globe are eagerly awaiting the live-streamed matches, which promise to bring thrilling moments and showcase the talent of Asia’s top female gamers.

By bringing together players from all backgrounds, Mobile Legends: Bang Bang not only highlights the progress of women in esports but also establishes a strong foundation for future tournaments.
