Star Wars: Tales of the Underworld – A Dark New Chapter Premieres This May

Star Wars Tales of the Underworld

Lucasfilm Animation is back with an all-new Star Wars animated anthology series—“Star Wars: Tales of the Underworld”, premiering May 5, 2025, exclusively on Disney+ Hotstar.

Following the success of Tales of the Jedi (2022) and Tales of the Empire (2024), this third installment shifts its focus from the Force to the shadows, delving into the lives of the galaxy’s most feared and complex outlaws.

Timed perfectly with the Star Wars holiday May the 4th, the series trailer and key art were released on April 3, giving fans a thrilling first look at what’s to come.

Two Iconic Villains, One Gritty Galaxy

“Tales of the Underworld” puts the spotlight on Asajj Ventress and Cad Bane, two legendary characters from the Star Wars universe. Both villains, notorious in their own right, now find themselves at the crossroads of morality, loyalty, and survival.

  • Asajj Ventress, the former Sith assassin turned bounty hunter, gets a chance at redemption as she flees with an unlikely ally.
  • Cad Bane, one of the most feared bounty hunters in the galaxy, must confront a haunting past when he comes face-to-face with an old friend—now a lawman on the opposite side of the fight.

These character-driven stories offer a gritty, personal view of the Star Wars galaxy’s criminal underbelly, far removed from Jedi temples and Imperial power struggles.

A Vision by Dave Filoni

Star Wars veteran Dave Filoni returns as the creator and supervising director. Known for his masterful storytelling in The Clone Wars, Rebels, and The Mandalorian, Filoni brings deep emotional nuance to characters often labeled as villains. As with the previous Tales series, expect rich animation, impactful voice performances, and layered narratives that expand the Star Wars mythos.

Filoni is joined by a team of experienced producers including Athena Yvette Portillo and Carrie Beck as executive producers, Josh Rimes as co-executive producer, and Alex Spotswood as senior producer. The series is written by Matt Michnovetz, a longtime contributor to the Star Wars animated universe.

An All-Star Voice Cast Returns

The voice cast features fan favorites and newcomers alike:

  • Nika Futterman reprises her role as Asajj Ventress.
  • Corey Burton returns as Cad Bane.
  • Other voice talents include Artt Butler, Lane Factor, AJ LoCascio, Clare Grant, Dawn-Lyen Gardner, and Eric Lopez.

Their performances add depth and authenticity to these beloved (and feared) characters, bringing the shadows of the galaxy to life with raw emotion and energy.

Expanding the Star Wars Universe

“Tales of the Underworld” isn’t just another spin-off—it’s a powerful exploration of characters operating outside the typical Star Wars moral binary.

As Disney+ Hotstar continues to be the home of Star Wars content in Malaysia and across the region, this series promises to deepen fans’ understanding of the galaxy’s gray areas, challenging viewers to see familiar characters in a new light.

Whether you’re a long-time follower of Clone Wars-era lore or a fan of the more recent live-action expansions, this series is set to resonate with anyone intrigued by the untold stories behind the villains.

Catch It This May 5 Only on Disney+ Hotstar

With beautifully animated visuals, emotionally driven narratives, and a spotlight on the galaxy’s antiheroes, “Star Wars: Tales of the Underworld” is a must-watch for any fan looking to explore the darker, deeper side of the Star Wars saga.

As the countdown to May the 4th begins, be sure to mark your calendars for May 5, when the entire anthology becomes available for streaming exclusively on Disney+ Hotstar.

Don’t miss this bold new chapter in the Star Wars universe.
