On August 12th,2023, as The Rotary Club of Kuala Lumpur DiRaja marked its 96 th Anniversary with an exclusive gala dinner held at the prestigious M Hotel and Resort.

Gathered were esteemed guests and attendees who collectively witnessed a pivotal juncture in the club’s journey – the installation of the incoming president and board of directors for the Rotary year 2023/2024.

This landmark occasion was a testament to the club’s unwavering commitment to fostering positive change within society. The funds raised during this memorable evening are poised to make a meaningful impact, as they will be dedicated to organizing vital medical camps for the B40 community across Malaysia.

Distinguishing this celebration was The Rotary Club of Kuala Lumpur DiRaja’s steadfast resolve to address healthcare disparities entrenched in the B40 community. The club’s orchestrated medical camps provide essential health screenings, consultations, and treatments, all at no cost. By doing so, they bridge the gap in healthcare accessibility for individuals with limited resources.

These initiatives, with their focus on preventive care and health education, empower individuals to proactively manage their well-being. The far-reaching effects of these endeavours hope to bring about significant improvements in the overall health of the B40 community.

In attendance as the esteemed Guest of Honour was Datin Chan-Low Kam Yoke, President of HELP University, whose partnership with The Rotary Club of Kuala Lumpur DiRaja has resulted in the allocation of RM5 million in bursaries to deserving applicants. This collaboration underscores the unity of organizations devoted to catalysing positive change.

Crucial to the event’s success were valued partners such as MAAEDICARE, BRDB Sdn Bhd, Lee Foundation, and sister Rotary clubs around the region.

Highlighting the evening were two key moments – the official installation of the leadership ceremony and the bestowal of the Paul Harris Fellow award upon the deserving Guest of Honour, Datin Chan-Low Kam Yoke. This distinguished Rotary recognition honours those who have made remarkable contributions to society.

These include an eye check clinic for schoolchildren, a medical clinic tailored for kidney failure patients in partnership with MAAEDICARE, a forthcoming medical camp addressing health issues among underprivileged individuals, and a collaborative medical camp with sister club, the Rotary Club of Hatyai-Nakarin, aimed at supporting underprivileged children in border schools in Thailand.

The club remains committed to disaster relief efforts, environmental projects in conjunction with the Rotary Club of KK Pearl in Sabah, and the ongoing ‘Kena Bamboo’ environmental education initiative with selected secondary schools.
