Warner Music Malaysia and FINAS Join Forces

Warner Music (WM) Malaysia and the National Film Development Corporation Malaysia (FINAS) have announced an exciting new strategic partnership aimed at bringing Malaysian films to the global stage, creating unprecedented opportunities for the country’s creative talent.

Through this collaboration, both organizations will invest in film production and work to promote the export of Malaysian films, with a strong emphasis on original soundtracks (OSTs). The goal is to develop exceptional OSTs for selected films that will resonate both domestically and internationally, enhancing the overall cinematic experience.

Warner Music Malaysia will leverage Warner Music Group’s vast global network to facilitate collaborations with international artists, introducing fresh perspectives and broadening the reach of Malaysian soundtracks. By utilizing its strong relationships with leading digital platforms, the company aims to maximize the distribution and impact of these OSTs, ensuring they gain widespread recognition.

Dinesh Ratnam, Managing Director of Warner Music Malaysia, expressed his enthusiasm for the partnership, saying,

“We are thrilled to partner with FINAS as we share a common vision of supporting the global export of Malaysian creative talent. A powerful soundtrack can significantly amplify a film’s impact and reach, and we are eager to use our global network to elevate local films and boost their potential on the international stage.”

Dato’ Azmir Saifuddin Mutalib, Chief Executive Officer of FINAS, echoed this sentiment, stating,

“This collaboration is a major milestone for the Malaysian film industry, reflecting our shared commitment to showcasing Malaysia’s rich talent and storytelling to the world. By combining Warner Music Malaysia’s expertise in music and global connections with our deep understanding of the local film industry, this partnership has the potential to elevate Malaysian cinema to new heights.”

This partnership builds on WM Malaysia’s successful track record of working with local artists. Last year, two of the three most-streamed local artists on Spotify were signed to Warner Music, with Masdo taking the top spot and Luqman Podolski ranking third. Additionally, Sarah Suhairi’s hit “SAH,” featuring Alfie Zumi, was the highest-charting Malaysian song in Indonesia this year and reached #1 on the Malaysian RIM chart.

With this collaboration, Warner Music Malaysia and FINAS are set to drive the Malaysian film industry forward, bringing its unique stories and sounds to audiences around the world.
